So at the same time Messi says he wants to meet and discuss an amicable departure, Barto says it’s the release clause or nothing.... don’t know what to make of it tbh, it’s all strategy and mind games at this point

This is just a battle between Messi and Barca that has to play out now. Frustrating but City can do nothing other than wait and hope the Messi camp get Barca to agree to come to the table on a sale. Barca obviously starting from “it must be the release clause”. Messi starting from “it must be a free transfer”. So in time, hopefully they come together in the middle, then once City know the fee, they scramble to make it work with FFP. It will drag on and on. But hey, they’re only 700m Euros apart :)
