BBC Director - "To Axe Left Wing Comedy"

Is that actually right v left thing or just a debate about political correctness? Ricky Gervais is another one who's difficult to pigeon hole. I don't see him as particularly right wing, but he does like to take the piss out of the outraged 'left'.
I think Gervais is a humanist and anyone who's offended about anything whichever political leanings they are he'll go for them.

You're right Bob, I do but I also manage to post on our other forums.

Same can't be said of others now can it?

I‘m always right. It is both a blessing and a curse.

As to others I have no idea, I have zero interest in the posting habits of others.

Unfairly biased against the Tories, Brexit and Trump? Imagine that. Comedians taking the piss out of the government of the day more than the opposition. And of course we certainly didn't have any piss taking of Corbyn. And Tony Blair went through his entire three terms without any piss taking.

As for Trump, why is it even relevant that a BBC comedian isn't impartial about an American president? Has anyone complained that comedy shows cover the actions of the Chinese government, they don't have a pro-CCP comedian on to give a 'balanced view' of the issues?

Clearly you do or you wouldn't have commented on my post.

Go on, treat yourself, go spend some time on our football forums.

I think the problem is bob that you are not aware that you are a bit of a **** tbh. I'm not having a go at cunts btw - far from it, as I have been one most of my life. Being a **** is a bit like having an allergy or bad eyesight - not the end of the world, but you have to adapt accordingly. If you don't even realise you are a **** it places you at a disadvantage in this respect.

Can't remember with the BBC at the time. I do however remember 2DTV taking the piss out of him on a weekly basis about his fawning of the US and George W.

I think Jim Jeffries nailed it in one one of his stand up shows. He said something about he sees comics he doesn't like politically but they make him laugh. There's some jokes he doesn't find funny but he'll piss himself laughing at the ones he does and remembers them rather than getting offended at the shit jokes.

Frankie Boyle is a nasty twat, not sure why the BBC continue to employ this horrid tramp. Years a go he took pleasure in taking the piss out of people's physical appearances notably Becky Adlington. You aren't funny if you have to resort to mocking appearances.
It's interesting you bring that one up on this thread, because Boyle explains it in this interview here:

And one thing he mentions is the censorship involved at the time of talking about any serious issues surrounding the war, to they ended up resorting to cheap shots at celebrities and people's appearances. You look at panels shows now, and they are increasingly light-hearted (even when they're good) and the ones that profess to be satire are more often than not fairly surface level stuff. Very occasionally Ian Hislop will still lay into someone for the sort of corruption that requires a bit of research to uncover, but for every joke about government ministers awarding contracts to their friends or running an investment fund that stands to profit massively from Brexit, there's 10 about how Jacob Rees Mogg is a bit antiquated, Boris Johnson has said something stupid, or Michael Gove took cocaine in uni. BBC comedy is a far cry away from doing the sort of thing John Oliver does in America, for example. Bremner Bird and Fortune is the last example I can think of of that incredibly well-researched satire.

No, I just couldn't resist pointing out you were posting in this forum while having a little dig at others for doing the same. Shades of ‘25 years vs 2017’ in the other thread.

I wouldn’t have put you down as a ****. Not convinced you have what it takes.

Me on the other hand...

Is the state of the current comedy scene not just a reflection of where we are in the World right now? One of the key components of satirical comedy is the concept of 'punching up'. At the moment we have a right wing Government, a right wing president and were it not for Covid the dominant news story would be Brexit which is also a predominantly right wing movement. By definition then most of the satirical comedy is going to be aimed at those targets. It isn't necessarily whether that is right or wrong or funny or not its just that those are currently the biggest and easiest targets.
