Looking at Barca forums. Many want him to leave because they don't want him to stay another year while his heart is not in it.

But the most outrageous thing is that those who want to sell him are suggesting that we pay them: 100m + Bernardo + Garcia. Or 100m + Bernardo and Jesus.

I mean.....how stupid do they think we are?
well obviously they're going to want the best for their club, just like we're wanting Lionel fuckin Messi on a free.

Good whilst it lasted. Probably not worth it with another passing. This was the opportunity, so it is a shame.

Reading some of the posts I'd say very.

The longer this drags on the less chances of him staying, this is my only hope. Why would you take so long to decide to stay ? That doesn't really look good on Messi.
We dont know that ! You can assume thats what MAY be taking place ... on the other hand Messi snr may be thrashing out a deal to go without too many threats. We`ll just have to wait and see.

This is a negotiation going on in the public eye. If Messi/his dad says he might be staying it's part of the negotiations. It doesn't mean he wants to stay but it does put pressure on Bartomeu. That bat-shit-crazy arsehole has a lot of money to find to cover the debt he's accrued between now and his departure from the club next year (and part of the responsibility for some of the debt falls on his toes). If he gets nowt for Messi, either in terms of players or money, and he has to pay him around 150 million euro as a result (as is reported), he could be in real go-to-jail difficulties. Messi saying he might stay means Bartomeu will possibly be soiling himself. Possibly.

There’s some flapping on here... it’s almost certainly a tactic by Messi and his team. They ask to leave and Barca behave unreasonably- demanding €700m. The most obvious tactic - which is the one they have employed is to say okay I’ll stay, I won’t sign an extension but if you want I’ll sit here until June, I’m unhappy, you’ve irreparably damaged our relationship but you can pay me until the end of June and I’ll sign a pre contract with City in January. The ball is now in Barca’s court - pay close to £50m in wages etc to an uncommitted player who is going to undermine the Board, the fans are upset at the way a legend has been treated and this will be a long slow painful separation that will end any hopes of reelection. OR accept its over and try to get any sort of fee for him and start the rebuilding process and move on. There’s a few twists and turns to this drama yet and I really don’t think Messi sitting tight plays to anyone’s agenda.

bernardo is out of question, but honestly, Jesus as part of the deal clearly is a good option imo. He has value, and I think he and everybody following City has acknowledged the fact that Aguero's boots are too big for him. Jesus will never be City's first number 9

Used? He isn’t signing a new contract, and Bartomeu isn’t stepping down. So not sure how you decide we’ve been used. Barca simply won’t let him leave.

I still have this lingering impression all of this from Bartomeu is a rouse, to back Leo into a corner and then have leverage in negotiations with City. Because at the end of the day (Once he's dumped Rakitic, Vidal, Umtiti & Suarez effectively for free), he has to balance the books with a big sale or face an indictment & possible prison

I do wonder if this saga will yet again change course
