Messi should come out and say "I am sorry to the fans, but I have to leave, the time has come, I regret it ended this way but my hand was forced"

but I'm not 100% sure he will! but stranger things have happened

IF Messi does not come this summer I would be concerned IF we are waiting 12 months to sign him. There is no guarantee we are getting the player we think we are at that time and also I would hope that we are looking at the next Messi for the future.
I am not concerned about the cost (its not my money) and completely trust those in charge, who have been incredible in the last 10 years. I just don't buy into the theory that we would wait around for 12 months for him personally.

The situation as it seems to be at right now is that Messi is unsure if he wants to take barca to court, which is unknown if they still believe they'd win, or stay in order to avoid the embarrassment of taking a club he loves to court.
I don't think Messi would be the taking it to court (I suppose he could to get ratification of their beliefs on the contracts).

I'm hopeful that if Barca won't back down then he just goes ahead and signs for us. We'll see how big their balls are then.

No club will sign him with potential €700m outlay hanging. Too big a risk financially and legally. If this goes to courts, a quick resolution will be required. If this is the way things go, I believe in next 48 hrs we will read that Messi is staying at Barcelona
FIFA Arbitration panel can issue a transfer certificate. They may also issue some guidance on his contract.

I haven't bothered to look at his contract but I believe aspects of it were leaked and it supported Messi's interpretation rather than the clubs.

I believe City will be familiar with his contractual position, but we are still hovering in the background so perhaps this is not the issue that La Liga and Bartomeu would like to think? They are trying to intimidate Messi into staying. This is a stupid way of operating. Once a player is unhappy the best thing to do is to get the most you can for him.

It could be argued that Raheem is now a striker. In the Henry mode. ie cuts in from wide positions like Thierry used to do.

I mean he scores way more goals than the likes of Giggs, Overmars, Ribery, Robben and other conventional wingers.

Well it perhaps could, but it still wouldn't change the fact that it's some years since we've had a young striker to come off the bench & nick a few goals & that was Iheanacho, who was a signing anyhow

I genuinely believe that he wants to come to City and is not playing us this time.
I think he will find it very difficult however under the current circumstances at Barca.

We will have made our position very clear to him. He trusts us and there is no reason to believe our team have been anything but straight with him.

However that could mean that all he ends up with is “ and here’s what you could have won”.

We’ll carry on regardless with or without him.
The football world can judge who has been honourable and professional throughout all this.

Bartomeu is a spoilt child. How on earth did Barca vote him in?

How does treating Messi like this improve his standing? He’s ruined the club he is now turning the most loved player ever against him. Keeping Messi against his will when the contract indicates he can leave for free is madness.

If he succeeds how does he think this will be good for him? People aren’t stupid they know that he has been forced to stay rather than for the love of the club.

I can only think he was severely bullied at school

Fuck it, let's plunge
Not safe to do so yet.

Messi has to make it very clear that he's out. Then we go in. Otherwise it could be argued we encouraged him to break his contract.

Messi can play this 2 ways:

Break with Barca finally and irrevocably and then move on a free.

Grind them down over time forcing Barca to let him leave for a fee - and avoid legal action.

I meant Messi.

He can plunge, sign for us & he can even pay for it.
