Couldn't messi go on strike to a potential court case is heard ruling in favour of either him and barca over the contract dispute? At least then there is no commitment on city to buy messi if they rule in Barcas favour?
 
Why doesn’t he just buy out his contract? After all he is in his final year according to Barca. Surely that would be the logical way out.

It would suggest that Bartoeu's attempt to buy him off has failed.

Messi I think wants them to lower his transfer fee. It's easy for Barca to act tough now but it wont be when the season starts and the window is fast approaching.

For our nerves sake, it would be easier on us if he just left on a free but I think he might Bartomeu in a vice and squeeze.

I am not concerned about the cost (its not my money) and completely trust those in charge, who have been incredible in the last 10 years. I just don't buy into the theory that we would wait around for 12 months for him personally.

But does he really care what happens later... He's gone next march at the latest.... If he gets Messi to stay until the end of his contract then the worlds greatest ever player didn't leave on his watch... The fact that he can then leave on a free doesn't affect him. He's really not got anything to lose by digging his heels in... Horribly slimy cnut that he is....
 
According to Gab Marcotti, the reason why Messi didn’t inform Barca he wanted to leave by the original June 10th date is because City were still banned at that point. Nothing to do with the season being extended due to Covid-19 apparently!
