Thought this thread would be choc a block with positive news about the Brexit negotiations and all our new trade deals, instead it’s slipping into obscurity.
Damn, I’ve bumped it now, thought for a minute we could forget about the thread and pretend Brexit hadn’t happened

Well, outside the Express ("EU as trading force under threat as Cyprus demands protected status for halloumi") there is no positive news, the only people who now don't realise that Brexit is a shitshow are keeping quiet (or talking among themselves, or are Tory MPs) and it's gone beyond wumming so it looks like an occasional bump is the proper course of action.

Oh, there's positive news alright, so far the UK is not conceding territory to the EU, or adopting their laws/rules, as a basis for discussion. Which means the EU is no longer dealing with some recalcitrant member of their corrupt, bloated organisation.
Carry on talking amongst yourselves though, I understand the need to vent.

So according to the Express the big cheeses are getting involved...

Sure, we really are sticking it to them

I‘m sure NI will be relieved to hear this, oh, wait, we already conceded that territory.

How are we getting on building EU customs posts in NI? Anyone have any updates?

Wonder if we're heading towards a last minute EU concession on fishing in return for a UK concession on LPF and state aid?

Listening to radio 4 this morning with fishing reps from both sides. Was interesting that the British bloke wanted to treat it as a single issue whereas the French guy was talking about it from a more collective standpoint in the sense of 'you want access to the single market, there needs to be give and take in different areas'.

So pretty much what we already knew. Should've just done the inevitable no deal ages ago instead of going round in circles for however long.

Should have got a couple of quid on it last summer when Boris said it was a million to one. Could have probably got half a million by cashing out now.

Love me a leaked memo :)

UK officials are urgently working to avoid a border crisis with the EU, according to a leaked memo.’

The most concerning thing about this is that we're heading for this crisis whether we have a trade deal or not. Why did no-one warn us?

Anyway, it's what we voted for.

Yes, i keep thinking we have to do a deal as no deal is untenable for any PM but the reality is that even a shitty deal will cause a significant amount of chaos. The bad press on a shit deal and customs chaos might also be untenable.

The way out is a deal with an extension to the WA built in. A brexit delay in other words but dont expect to hear the word delay. It is the only way to avoid a clear and unmitigated failure to deal with the basics of brexit. So dont go lumping on a no deal just yet - I dont see any PM surviving it so they wont do it.

I don’t think anyone will lump on at the current odds of 2/5. Preferred the 1000000/1 from last year.

It was very simple really. Is Britain going to kill off a good chunk of EU states' fishing industry when they haven't got the fleet to catch all the fish in our waters? (That could only be rectified by buying the redundant boats from the EU and crewing them with foreigners, which could not happen at all quickly). The inevitable outcome will be fish not caught, shortage of supply, and higher prices - and that, I suspect, will suit the UK east coast fishing corporations - same costs, higher profits. It won't suit the bits of the UK fishing industry that export most of their catch to the EU.

You know we were promised unicorns? Well, guess what children, we all get a lorry park instead! Arf.

So they've given themselves planning permission for lorry parks, and the list of places they could go include Cheshire East (a long way from any port), Trafford and Salford but not Manchester. And they could go in the green belt.

The things we have to do to demonstrate the political will to be utterly stupid.
