No, it's not clear. Messi's statement could have said it doesn't matter about the 700 million clause. That clause applies, if it applies at all in the final year of contract, to a player under contract at Barca, but I'm not under contract at Barca, I'm no longer a Barca player, I said as much when I triggered my end of season get out clause.

But it didn't say that, it argued the terms of his departure as a contracted Barca player, so those saying he's staying for another year are reading it right. Whether he does stay for a year is another matter, this could be just a way of clearing the decks of this silly 700 million bollocks, so that the serious business of buying him can begin. But, be in no doubt, this letter is an explicit recognition by Messi that he's still a Barca player and subject to the clauses in his contract, this letter addressed such a clause, QED he's still under contract with Barca.

This is true as of right now. Maybe next week it wont be. Doesn't change my reading of it.

The outcomes in probability order are:

City and Barca agree a deal
Messi and Barca go to court (he is ruled a free agent and signs for city)
Messi and Barca go to court (he is ruled a Barca player and has to stay)
Messi agrees a deal to stay at Barca
Messi gives up and stays on his current deal.

In fact, the letter explicitly states its case regardless of "other rights" in the contract. I think they don't want to leave for free but still believe they can.

Don't know what way this one is going to go.
IMO it seems that too many bridges have been burnt and he wants a fresh start in pastures new.
After the statement though from Messi's Father it seems they are hell bent on getting Messi away from Spain as soon as they can.
Doesnt seem like the sort of statement that implys the player is staying put and is happy to see out the remainder of his contract.
I think one thing is for certain it is us or barca and he doesn't seem happy in staying there.
I think in all honesty patience is key here and we wait to see how things play out.
