Have we become expectant as a fanbase?

To a degree, we have become expectant. Is it that wrong to expect great things from the squad we have in place now, sans Messi? If we start getting entitled, I'd be more worried.
Entitled is similar to expectant I think, rags and red scousers have had an air of arrogance and expectant/entitlement for decades. I think older blues tend to be more grounded and humble with a long memory of very lean times. it's younger blues that have only seen success that are more likely to become entitled. The day I feel I've become entitled is the day I knock following us on the head.

It's poor performances I can't stand. So much talent and the best footballing brain on the planet leading them and we capitulate at the likes of Norwich. I don't expect us to win every game and sometimes having 25 shots and not scoring leaves you scratching your head a bit but nothing is guaranteed.

A lot of our fans have been spoilt by success and a lot of them have jumped on the bandwagon

My 14 year old lad was watching a video of our relegation match at Stoke in 98 and he couldn't believe that the entire city end were stood applauding the city players off at the end

To be honest I'd forgotten how good our fanbase used to be, arguably the best in the country.. maybe not in numbers but in quality.

Can't imagine for one second the team being clapped off these days after a catastrophic failure like that

Bluemoon is not really a fair reflection of the fan base and the same can be said of any Internet forum.

We have became expectant in the sense of expecting to win every game and expecting trophies. accepting sub-par performances and pitiful trophy challenges because we remember being shit in 1999 has always been bullshit, you adapt to the circumstances we are in at that moment. There’s nothing wrong with expecting titles so long as it’s realistic, we’re lucky enough to have had the investment and have the squad to do so so it’s fine, the key is you stay grounded.

The atmosphere has changed a lot, that’s a natural consequence of there being much higher stakes now though and that’s something we’re still coming to terms with as a fan base but aside from that we’ve remained largely the same.

We should be expectant and if we are not there is something wrong.

We are now one of the biggest and most important clubs in world football, with some of the best players in the world.

We are not the club of the late 70,s - 90s run by a TV rental shop owner and run like a Sunday League side.

Spoilt cunts now. We were disappointed by last season, a season which still had more silverware than I'd seen city win in my life prior to the takeover. Just as we laugh at the rags turning into '90's Liverpool we need to have half an eye on ourselves turning into '90's rags. I don't think older blues will ever get that smug and entitled, but I don't think my youngest lad has been to a game and seen city come away without a win and score at least 3. Still, at least we're not murdering other fans or commercialising tragedy yet. As for this place our success is attracting more red shite on the wum and general dicks. I'd gladly pay ric 5-10 quid a year if a membership fee put the rags/dippers off.
I'm actually gob-smacked reading this !!!
You have kids ! not just one, but more ! kinell, (unless you mean young goats ? :-p).

In general though, I think there's definitely a difference in expectations generation-wise, some of these young/new fans need to sit down and watch some of our erm "finest" moments to fully appreciate where we've been at times.

The original comment uses the wrong words to express themselves. Their meaning was clear though.

I think a change in perception is due to viewing City's support through the internet. Disappointments and anger always get emphasised a lot more than support. A lot of people who are intensely loyal express negative emotions and this can be misinterpreted very easily.

It can, but also it is only right that as supporters we have far higher expectations than of 12 years ago, pre take over.

We are a vastly different proposition. We employ the best people at all levels of the club, management, coaching , medical, execs etc.

Our owner and Chairman expect continued success and there is nothing wrong with our fan base demanding the same.
