So Tixki did not fail to get a cb last summer?

Tixki spent all summer chasing Maguire, a player Pep wanted, then pulled out of the deal because it was not good value.

Tixki despite spending all summer chasing the said Maguire, once the club withdrew from the race to sign him , had no backup option?

Yes Pep was let down last summer, and it was obvious to all that Pep was pissed about it.
Did Txiki pull out, does Txiki decide value ? Not according to the all or Nothing filming, where Txiki was told van Dijk was too expensive. Did Txiki alone decide not to try for an alternative or did he discuss with Pep , Soriano, Berrada. Or do at the end of every window they all wait for Txiki to appear and tell them how he got on?

OK, then the club messed up, and let's hope they don't do the same this summer, otherwise we will have another disappointing season.

and he was right! He wasn’t good value. Tiki didn’t know we’d lose Laporte for so long or that Stones would have a meltdown. Pep was also planning to use Garcia.
It will all have been discussed- Tiki doesn’t make unilateral decisions

I think the chances of getting him this window have reduced somewhat but absolutely "Dead"....no way. This isn't blind hope..

If you are staying no matter what you keep your thoughts to yourself and just say I love the club and I'm staying. Messi burnt every bridge possible accept with the fans. There is a reason he and his Dad did what they did and I'm sure it was to put more pressure on the Barca board.

I also think this is something City will have encouraged him to do. That interview was carefully planned not just off the cuff thoughts...he didn't even need to do one if he was definitely staying. Why would he?

Having done everything asked of him and burned all his bridges, what are the chances we leave him high and dry to face the aftermath on his own?

We will still be doing our bit to get him out this window. Tolmie is bang on with this.

What I would like to know from @tolmie's hairdoo is if we are ultimately unsuccessful this window will we still sign a pre contract with him in January?

Apologies I went all Mambo with this post originally.

His price was outrageous , just like VVD and Koulibaly were and will be.

Sometimes needs are greater, you have to pay over the top for something you badly need, good CB's are a rare commodity.

Anyone at the club who though we had enough with Kompany leaving, Stones damaged and Otto legs failing, should be looking for another job, criminal mistake in my opinion.

Emphasis on good. Maguire is average. Nowhere near Koulibaly or Van Dijk's level. The fact that we were reportedly willing to go to 70 million for him is evidence that the club understood the gravity of the problem and were willing to overpay. They just weren't willing to overpay as much as United were.

Danilo wanted to go.
He did, let him go, but even without Danilo, CB was far more important.

Frimpong, remember him? let him go for next to nothing to Celtic, the kid has been amazing up there, he could have been used as cover, we had other options at RB and also Walker is rarely injured and very consistent.

Our priority last summer was a top class CB

I doubt they did think they had enough but they’re not going to jump at anything like some clubs & it has proved a winning formula apart from last season when we only won 2 pieces of silverware & only cane second in the league

We decided to give both Stones and Otamendi one more go rather than spunking £80m on Slabhead (or Ake would of been valued at that price last season)

The title was lost as soon as Laporte was injured.

We were a long , long way behind the dippers, we lost 9 league games last season, that for a club like us is unacceptable.

Agreed. For me, value can only be assessed after the event. People are saying Ake is good value because he only cost £40m. If he turns out like Stones or Mangala, it will be another £40m down the pan. There is no "value" in buying x amount of £40m CBs, if they all turn out to be shite. One £90m CB that does the business, is far better value than three £40m CBs that are no good.

I dont care how much Koulibaly costs, if Pep thinks he is the one, get him. If we win the title next season, nobody will care how much we paid for him but see if we back out of the deal based on cost, defend like schoolboys and finish miles behind the scousers again, everyone will care.

Big mistake in giving them a second chance, Otto was gone and that's age, you can't get that back, Stones was given a chance and we all know what he did with that!!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing
Otto getting old was hindsight? LOL

Laporte and Kompany were the trusted CB that took us to the title and FA CUP.

Don't forget that, that's not hindsight, that is fact.

And I said the same thing before the season started , as did many on here.

What a fcuking blessing that was hey Maguire looks like dinosaurs and acts like one when pissed up.
