GM scoreboard is generally down a bit but the two 'best' towns in GM continue their rise and both record their worst ever numbers today. It is starting to look possible only Trafford will stay out of restrictions and they might need re -imposing on Stockport and Wigan later this week. Unless things stop going upwards.

Overall the GM scoreboard fell from 425 to 386. Not a big drop considering the UK total was 700 down on yesterday.

FWIW, I think Trafford continues to be subject to restrictions:

FWIW, I think Trafford continues to be subject to restrictions:

You are correct. My apologies. Rather shows the political way these decisions are taken. Trafford at present is the only borough that is not having high numbers. Though it is not having low ones either. Just by comparison with others.

The escalation in Wigan and Stockport in the past week or so has been particularly alarming. Not clear if they are suffering leakage from Bolton and Tameside (which is still having real problem numbers). But the escalation in those two towns is noticeable because of their previous excellent records.

They've had 6 months to short their shit out - you can see this year ending like it began in March thanks to their indifference and inability to get anything actually done

GM numbers:

Bolton 63 - well down from 96 - best in 5 days. 1130 in month, 560 past week (another record).159 over 2 days (was 192). Pop score up 22 to 1148.

Bury 26 - down from 27. 372 in month 159 past week. 53 over 2 days (was 47). Pop score up 14 to 970.

Manchester 70 - down from 77 but third highest yet. 1197 in month, 419 past week (new record). 147 over 2 days (was 131) Another new record. Pop score up 13 to 914.

Oldham 46 - down from 55 but third highest yet 667 in month. 257 past week (new record). 101 over 2 days (was 82). New record. Pop score up 17 to join the 1400 club - only a day behind Blackburn - at 1403. Those in Stockport wanting consolation recall this means Oldham has had almost twice as bad a pandemic as you over past six months.

Rochdale 31 - down from 35. 486 in month. 185 past week. 66 over 2 days (was 52). Pop score up 14 to 1158.

Salford 27 - down from 32 -slightly better day here. 534 in month. 210 past week. 59 over 2 days (was 64). Pop score up 10 to 850.

Stockport 28 - up from 24 and three on the trot in 20s. Highest number here yet. As feared Tameside numbers seem to be bleeding cross borders. 268 in month. Highest ever. 142 past week (new record - over 50% of month note). 52 over 2 days (was 49). Worst three days here yet with 77 cases over them - more than a two week spell in most periods up to last two weeks. Yet another new record. Pop score up 10 (highest yet) to 747.

Tameside 49 - up from 40. New record here. Third set in a week. Very clear problems here. Pushing up the table as one of the worst in UK. 526 in month (record). 248 in week (record and more than it recently used to get in a month). 89 over 2 days (was 66) (new record - you get the picture!). Pop score up a record 22 to 1026.

Trafford 16 - same as yesterday. In current terms this is low. 295 in month. Still behind Stockport here but cannot be for long if current numbers do not change in both places 98 past week (easily best in GM still though creeping up and we may have nowhere with a sub 100 weekly total by tomorrow). 32 over 2 days (was 28). Even here is edging up a little. Pop score up 7 to 787 - made up 3 on Stockport but still 40 behind so some way off this title.

Wigan 30 - up from 23. Like Stockport suffering numbers way over the normal low single figures both had for most of the pandemic. A month ago was getting 0s on some days. 310 in month. Falling behind here. 149 past week. Neck and neck with Stockport but both now well behind Trafford in this race. 53 over 2 days (was 46). Pop score up 9 to 780. Trafford on its heels for second spot here.

Worrying hospital data. Biggest rise in England patient numbers in a long while.

Up from 661 yesterday to 782 today. 121 is the biggest daily increase in months.

It is also a rise of 263 in the past six days.

Last time it was this high was 1 Aug when it was still falling steadily.

There are 322 in the other 3 nations in hospital and so the UK total has gone back above 1000 to 1104.

This is nearly double where we were about a month ago.

More bad hospital news.

In 24 hours the England ventilator beds have risen from 74 to 88. This is the biggest daily rise in a good while.

Worse still it has risen from 62 to 88 in the past four days.

There are 15 in the other 3 nations (unless Wales has changed today). - taking the UK total over 100 for the first time in weeks.

It was in fact 24 July last time there were over 100 in the UK.

Scotland data up first:

70 cases - at 2.7%. This data is not yet complete and true for all over the UK today we are told. The data will be in effect meaningless and too low. That % from such a lowish number shows a huge number of test results are missing

Nicola Sturgeon seems deeply concerned over the problems with getting testing results and a big delay over turnaround of results.

She has insisted the UK government tell her urgently what is going on as this is a UK wide issue not just Scotland.

Someone has to get a grip of this mess when testing is now so vital. It is becoming a scandal.
My daughters came back today tested last Monday, a completely pointless exercise as she worked all last week

well if that was the case and the virus wasnt getting weaker then hospital cases and deaths would shoot up both of which would have to be reported. No im sorry but the testing fiasco is just that a big cock up and not part of some dastardly plan.
I have just told you why we are better at saving peoples lives now
