Fern should never start in central midfield. His legs have gone. I agree Foden should have been central.

Complete shambles today. Mostly down to injuries and bad individual errors.

I thought we were superb for 45 mins at Wolves before we got tired and I thought that attitude would see us through today. Seems the Lyon defeat did not hurt enough.

Sadly I don’t think Fern is our worst option in CM, even when Gundogan is fit. He can’t get around the pitch like he used to, but he’s a more expansive passer than either Rodri or Gundogan. He distributes it quicker and also covers the ground quicker and anticipates stuff better. The fact we’re playing him there, or even using the double pivot at all is because none of our 6s can do the job on their own.

Today we did similar tactically to what we did against Lyon. We sabotaged our own strengths, in this case where Foden and Sterling have been working well to compensate for one player being injured.

We used to really harass when we lost possession often 2 or3 closing down the person on the ball giving him no option but a risky pass or being tackled

Yes but possession is everything to Pep . We were winning this game. When possession and retrieval of the ball fails there is no plan B. So he had better correct it . Maybe he cant especially with the injuries etc. But when they are all fit we will see what happens.
I'm normally positive overall but it's the inability to hold on to a slender lead and keep the intensity to a high level that has me concerned. Why should we be thinking every single game that we are going to need 2 or 3 goals to win? Why isn't 1 goal enough? We know the answers .

Probably shouldn't have taken Dinho off but he fucked up really badly on their first goal; if he'd just contained Mendy rather than disappearing into no-man's land, we might have had a completely different result.

Tbf at the time I thought it was a good substitution, we weren’t looking like scoring , was happy to see delap and thought we could manage with just one of Rodri or fern , obviously quickly went tits up though not long after fern went off .

That didn’t help but we play that risk reward way. However there were basic errors after that. Someone has to chop the Mendy, I think it’s Mahrez that had the chance. Then Walker has to not be stupid because he got wrong side and see what happens.
