Pep's contract situation | 2 year extension confirmed! (pg1817)

Question for everyone: When Pep eventually leaves (whether he renews or not), would you prefer Txiki and his team to continue or would you want a full sea change in the football (rather than business) leadership of the club?

We won’t change the philosophy of the club. The Sheikh and KAM want the team to play this way. It has been successful. Before pep was not a bed of roses. We had no identity and players threw bob under the bus at the end.We should have another fa cup. What we have now is a lot more professional and a clear mindset of who we are and how we play. Transfers are a lotto draw. Scum are finding that out. Liverpool have hit the jackpot recently but only recently before that they were garbage.

The mahrez signing is still annoying me. Good player in a highlights reel but a lazy git most of the time. We can’t have passengers in attack and this is what we have.

Hopefully you all, like myself, have calmed down a bit from yesterdays debacle. I was trying to pinpoint something that I feel has been not right for a while, something that is lacking with the current group of players. I came up with personality and fun.

Prior to the last few games Pep rolls out - and I know he's never had a love affair with the British media - with a sullen, angry approach. Before the Leicester game he sounded more like Maureen - moaning about fixtures, players rest etc. I'm not sure he realises it but that kind of sets the tone for our entire club. We all are not having the greatest of times during this pandemic but football is our entertainment, the 90 mins that takes us away from everyday worries. Players are paid so much to play. I once spoke at length to Ian Bishop and he said most players would prefer to play more games than train! different times maybe but it's still a damn fine way to make a fortune.

I remember seeing the training session films when Pep first arrived and the players were really enjoying their work. The main instigators of that attitude are either gone or are on the fringes of the team. Bernardo is a case in point - for me, when fit, he would be in the starting 11 every single time. He understands that yes it's only a game but certain things, like his guard of honour actions, mean a lot to us fans. His work rate is incredible and I don't think he would have allowed himself to capitulate like some yesterday. He is always smiling and appears to be a good influence to all. It helps he's very talented too. The game needs personalities and I feel looking at yesterday we didn't have a single player who thought - "This is crap, I'm going to do something about it."

Maybe I'm over simplifying it -but one thing that drew me in way back in the mid 70's was we were always different and it was always fun to watch - even in the worst of times. I don't want to come across as being entitled, we leave that to the lot from the other side of town - We have been incredibly lucky to witness such a talented team for a decade or so - we've won more trophies than I ever dreamed we would. But, going forward I want to see a return of personalities, sprinkled with a bit of humour that makes us fun to watch. We have not become a poor side overnight and I don't doubt individual ability - I still think man for man we are the most talented squad in the PL but It is as a team that enjoys playing as well as each others company that will make the difference. If Pep can lead again with that wry wit that we love we will be fine - he just seems low and looking a bit negative which has seeped into the team. I'm sure It will be fixed but it needs to happen soon - I don't think any of us want to re-live the final 30 minutes of yesterday again.

Just my musings, so please forgive the length of the post - it's part of my therapy ha!

Pep should understand that his ideas are based on moving ball quickly and quick movements of the players. Therefore faster and fitter players move faster and can realize his ideas better.

When Pep came first to England, this was the case and City completed transfers of rapid players such as Sane, Walker. Then for some strange reasons, Pep and the team Txiki changed their strategy making technical and passing ability first and foremost priority rather than looking for players who are quick, mobile and have good technical skills. Especially, very intelligent people like Pep should know very well that if slower playerʼs passing ability is not on once-in-generation level such as Xaviʼs, then it isn't worth
to build a team around them by sacrificing team mobility and movement. It is clear that Rodriʼs or Gundoganʼs passing ability is not dozens levels above over quick and mobile midfielders such as Thomas Parteyʼs.

The same holds true for Mahrez. His technical ability is not several times better than ability of Sane or winger of similar quality.

I’d love us to have some more City people in our club hierarchy, the way clubs like Bayern and Ajax do.
To be fair the main requirement to work at Bayern seems to be tax evasion convictions, not football heritage. Although I admit, I really don’t like the hypocrites of Munich, so I might be biased.

Can’t stand them as individuals either, but they’re Bayern through and through. Ours would obviously be of far better character

Love how you just sidestep the points made. Makes me think you have an agenda.

1) name 1/2 world class gettable leftbacks?
2) why do we always regress after a successfull period no matter who is manager? Even though its the same recruitment team.
3) only weak spots in our team now is lb and a more mobile cdm, hardly average now nevermind close to being below average.
4) is it peps fault that laporte, cancelo, stones, zinchenko, gundogan, bernado, mahrez(only just returned from positive covid 19 test), Jesus and kun are all injured at once.
5) is it peps fault the recruitment team took months to bring in a cb hes needed for 2 seasons?

He has a re build on his hands and if you look it isn't going too bad. Take a step back look at it.

Steffan/ederson not a better gk duo in Europe
Walker/cancelo/couto perfect blend
Dias/stones/thb strong
Laporte/ake perfect
?/mendy 1st teamer needed
Rodri/? Mobile cdm needed
Kdb/bernado perfect
Foden/doyle so much potential (would like aouer)
Sterling/braaf great 1st teamer braaf all potential.
Mahrez/torres strong
Kun/jesus/delap perfect blend.

Sell gundogan, zinchenko, nico and keep ferna around as club captain this year buy lb & cdm with cash.

Next year kun, ferna will leave and sell mahrez replace kun & mahrez and you have pep 2.0 team ready to go again. With some amazing kids snapping at heels to get in to the squad.

All in all he's doing a great job. Not many managers finish top 4 never mind top 2 transitioning a squad and losing players like kun, silva, sane, yaya, ferna, kompany (basically the whole spine) within 3 years on top of kdb out for over half a season, laporte nearly a full season, same with stones and sane. Yes he had faith mendy could come back as he was before, so did i, but I'm glad he did. Yes its cost us results but imagine the morale if he just got sold. Every player scared to go in hard/run themselves into the ground incase of a bad injury and no loyalty or patience shown.

Tell me again, truthfully, does he deserve to be sacked?
That's a well put together post. There's plenty of good points in it as well. Something needs to happen soon though. The same old weaknesses are there from last seasons horror show in the league. The football is boring to watch and that's the last thing you'd expect from a Pep team. I cant get my head around the fact we keep getting beat by the same tactics yet never sort out our fragilities.

excellent post

box to box midfielder, and a lb ,weve pretty much got our CB,get the players back who are ill or injured and things wont look so bad

In the cold light of day this is probably the most sensible post of the day and thread. Even Pep cant do much about injuries and having to play shit players in defence.
The truth is we got well and truly mugged by a brilliant and ruthless striker playing in a well disciplined, hard working and talented team. Can you just imagine how many goals we would score if Vardy was our front man ?

Probably not a lot Pep doesn’t play counter

You know what? i'm fucking going to say it. Credit to bloody Liverpool supporters. They may be in a delusional bubble at times, they may be culty, but they back their manager and players as if they were the best.

For the best part of 5 years, under klopp, when they bounced between 7th in the league to 3rd at best, before they came even close to winning anything, i've seen them defend ther manager, argue it was all part of a rebuild and time was needed to build a winning team, and argue how good their players are. I remember thinking, how long does this build take, how long can that narrative last. No idea what their forums are like but from anyone i've ever heard, they've always backed their squad and management (helps when the media do the same i know) no end.

Contrast that to so many on here wanting a manager that has won unprecedented success, not just at the club but never before seen in the league and country, rid off, because the team lost 9 fucking games and got knocked out of a cup in a one off round! In a season of injuries, var, that CAS debacle the club went through, and a global pandemic.

Second game of the season, depleted squad, no pre-season, and it's time for him to go, write the rest of all competitions off?

Genuinely can't understand it.

PS. Fucking Pochetino???

They probably knew Klopp wanted to stay though mate, you can’t expect loyalty if it doesn’t work both ways. £400 million quid on defenders seriously who else would get away with that. He needs to start being a manager and park the ideology. If we are going to back him and he stays fine but he needs the best of everything otherwise it doesn’t work.

It’s dead simple mate, you buy into his philosophy or you don’t. There’s no grey area in this. You either accept our weaknesses and know we will concede stupid goals most games but allow it because you know more often than not we will win games and trophies.
Or, you don’t.
I get why some have had enough and that’s their prerogative, seeing shit goals conceded is fucking infuriating, and seeing the same mistakes made isn’t much better.
It comes down to wherever you think the positives outweigh the negatives. There’s no right answer, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
As it stands though, I still want him in charge and feel he’s still the best manager we could possibly have - even with his obvious shortcomings.

I agree with you but unless you continually get the recruitment and motivation of the players bang on it can go very bad very quickly. No way of playing lasts forever. Other teams are using the ideals of Pep but can also manage to get some sort of defensive cohesion. People copy and adapt. Frankly last season and the beginning of this has followed an obvious pattern. The football that was once breathtaking is pretty boring. This many losses to poor sides, this many defensive fuck ups added to a lot of boring sideways football has done it for me.

Why people can’t see the end of his cycle when him Khaldoon and txiki have said it happens themselves is beyond me. Domestically he has done a good job but he has to be careful because 2 leagues in 5 and nowt in Europe suddenly dilutes his genius that too many are holding on to.

I personally think he is going at the end of the season anyhow so I’m not sure what we are doing here to be honest. He needs to start earning his wages or go with our best wishes.

Others see it different it’s all good. No one really wants a Mancini bluemoon fall out again but it’s coming. Would be nice to win some games and play decent football again.

IMHO this will depended upon Pep's happiness on two fronts, primarily whats happening with his family life and whats happening in his football life if its a positive from both then he extends

Watching VAR again last night and the officials performance id be gone like a fucking shot.

You think he's weak then? VAR and refereeing maybe biased but that's not the reason why City are struggling. It's an ever-present.

I've watched the Leicester game back now and the pens were all very soft. There's no way a Man Utd or Liverpool would have faced 3 pens and in the Brighton game we saw how VAR is used to their benefit. The defender conned the ref in the Pogba pen. Slowed down, got the contact and went down but that was the same as in the city game. Defenders get the wrong side, forwards collapse, ref all to ready to give it.

There is that factor but we're also defensively poor at the moment. No point trying to pass it all off as conspiracy.

I think he has been at the club longer than he has been anywhere. I think he lost his mother in the summer. I think his wife has moved back to Barcelona. I think he is very much on record as being fucked off with the way the club is treated on and off the pitch.

Name me one side in world football that wouldn't struggle to win a home game in which the opposition is awarded 3 penalties?

I'm all ears?

I find it hard to moan against VAR when pur defenders gave away three penalties in a single game. We should be focusing on ourselves, not Liverpool.

Another missing the point.

How many times do Liverpool defenders give away penalties only to see the officials and VAR declining to give them?

Handball twice last night on goals again not given or looked at? Mane who scored the equaliser shouldn't have been on the pitch?

Same posters ignoring that turn on our own and say they deserve it when we get pinged for the same and pinged we fucking get each and every time.

i edited my post immediately after making it. There is some refereeing bias but we repeatedly concede goals from the opposition's first attack because our defensive midfield is not up to scratch and our defenders make mistakes.

I'd be disappointed with Pep if he walked from this. He should rebuild City. That will be a test of his coaching ability. He should relish it, not run from it.
