Leicester City (H) Post Match Thread

Rodgers had a full preseaon and no injuries

That is not true, Riccardo is out (Our player of the season for the last two seasons) and Wilf is out (Until the new year it seems). (Our) Mendy who was superb yesterday was nearly out the door over the Summer, but pragmatism on both sides made a sensible decision.

Ole at the wheel doing 6 points vs us last season in PL. That 6 points is why they finished in CL place. Let that sink in.

This should be in the 'Save our Ole' thread, because I guess - as it is written into any Utd. managers contract (and has been since Moyes) that if they don't get CL they get the boot - and he did and didn't!

I have been mortified at the comments of Pep and Rodri after Sunday. Criticising the Leicester tactics and calling them lucky. Do we actually think that teams should try and play to our strengths? We got absolutely dicked by five at home, by a team which ruthlessly exploited our obvious long standing weaknesses. Deal with it, address the weaknesses, stop moaning and reacting like entitled kids. We would be in stitches if the victims lost by five at home and then blamed the opposition. It all speaks to a very worrying mindset at the club currently.

Coaching Negative, defensive, counter attacking football is way easier than positive, take the game on football.
Not entirely sure that’s true. Attacking football perhaps requires less discipline. You could argue holding shape, controlling areas the ball is allowed into, being clinical on the break is no less complex or tactically demanding.

Agreed , the comments of people that already appear to have put up the white flag.

Lets hope we are more positive and do the business on match days and change our tactics to maximise our chances of winning.

No way should we lose let alone let in 5 when we score first at home or away for that matter.

Do you think Liverpool would have lost that game after going in front.

Once again they won a game after going behind against an improving team yesterday.

if let Arsenal score first against us after the international break we are cactus.

It's last season all over again, in fact we are worse than last season!
The defending was abysmal, but even the best defenders in the world would struggle when they are expected to defend from the half way line every match. It's alright blaming the players, and many were awful, but it's the tactics that are at fault.
We can't keep playing the same tactics every game. After a couple of seasons teams get to know how to play against you. At the moment, they know to sit back, defend in numbers, and hit us on the break. Football is ever changing, and you need to evolve and adapt to be successful.
I'm afraid it is time for a clear out, and a fresh start, even if it means getting a new manager.
I said after the Arsenal match last season. The template is this. Defend narrow and give us the wings, pack the near side to ensure low crosses are blocked. Close the gaps between the lines to cut out the through ball. When you win the ball back, get it hard and fast to either flank and use runners in the channels. If you have pace, Bingo. Goal. You only need to succeed at that 3 or 4 times in a game and you are guaranteed a couple of goals. On top of that (and I am a big fan) Eddie has nowhere near the 1 on 1 capability of Joe Hart. I see no sign of that being coached into him either.

Too right... everyone played games every three days last season, these people are multi millionaire sportsman, who play 90 mins of football once and , now and again , twice a week... please , if they are tired and overplayed after two games it’s going to be a long season. Admit we were out thought , outplayed and out enthused and hope we fix it

Liverpool are on course to do a CL win, a 97 point season, and 99 point season. If they pick up either a CL win or the league this season then I think very happily most people not wearing blue tinted specs will claim them the better side, and they'll laugh off our domestic treble and records. Our job is to stop them doing that and the league could be gone by December again if we turn in another performance like we did against Leicester.

Watching the dippers last night, they are so far ahead of us it's fucking sickening

Ok then, league finished? How did Dias get on? Did we buy a lb? Pep extend?

Talk bout throwing in the towel. Once the new defence settles we will be fine. Everyone was bored of us winning anyway. Fight back is on with Dias you Scouse scrotes.

The squad on Sunday is the point. How does that squad concede 5. Look at the cost of the defence alone. 3 full internationals. And yes in decline. If you think we are anywhere near previous levels you’re deluded. No intensity, no power or pace. Lost sane and silva in same season have we replaced them with similar levels of class talent? Lost 9 last year. That’s called decline surely you see that

Oh ffs!
It’s one game. It’s a new season. No pre-season.

have a pancake and a brew. It’s not that bad. #yorkaway

Hypothetically speaking, would you sacrifice any of Ederson's distribution skills if he was better in 1 on 1s and those crucial game turning saves that Harty used to produce when we needed it most ?

No. He is integral to Pep And still relatively young. I might sacrifice 10% of his ability with the ball at his feet with a 30% uplift in his shot saving/121 ability though;-).

if Pep leaves then that’s something else.

Oh you were there I take it. It’s not one game but keep telling yourself whatever helps.

It is one game.

It’s a new season.

we’ll be reet and if not, it’s not the end of the world is it.

fuckin meltdown on here is a pisser!

Many are blaming the defence and thats warranted but whats more worrying for me is the body language and team moral atm. Dinho looked miserable coming off (maybe rightly so) with barely a handshake with pep and it was even worse with raz last week. I hope pep isn't losing the dressing room otherwise thats the beginning of the end.

I hope you're right but if you think Dias magically solves the state of our defending, you're dreaming. Additionally, we have zero pace in midfield, Mendy is a headless chicken and we've NO senior strikers fit! Apart from that we're fine...

Wonder how Ederson distribution skills are used when opponents does not press us high up the pitch, Leicester let us bring ball to halfway line without trouble, Ederson was not part of build up compared to that when they press really high and Garcia-Ederson passing to each other to find a space to move attack forward.

I can see teams watching Leicester way to beat us and opt for this, this is certainly saved lot of energy for them, not pressing very high but being lot more compact in their own half. The way they used the wingbacks was very clever and some midfielders the way they covered for fullbacks.

And they did not press us high up even knowing Mendy/Ake/Garcia coould be troubled more maybe than if we have Laporte-Dias back who should have much stronger presence and less likely to get scared if pressed.

Teams are working incredible hard off the ball against us, I dont see City players doing the same.

Rodgers did a huge job on Pep, and we had no reaction whatsoever, taking Fernandinho off just made it much worse to be honest.

I kept an eye on Kyle Walker after the pen. Just sauntered around for 10-15 mins, no pressing or anything.
