Do you have all the answers?
Edit: yes they have been reactive and comms could be a lot clearer, but I feel any government would result in you saying the same.
No i don't have the answers, nobody does.
But this government only cares about London, it's like another country.
People are fed up within this now, the mental health impact is off the charts.
What can you look forward to anymore?

There is plenty to look forward to. Perhaps not much before we have to endure what might be a bloody awful winter but this will pass.

We are all fed up with it but for now, we have to collectively contribute to eradicating this awful virus.

It will linger on if pockets of society continue to ignore the safety advice. The advice might not be clear, but most is obvious

We will get there, let's hope its sooner rather than later.

‘No I don’t have all the answers, nobody does’.
But you are blaming the government for all the problems we have here. No country other than NZ, China and North Korea appear to have controlled the virus.

I keep hearing that it will pass
Will it?

Of course it will.

Now I am not going to be one of the cretins that tell you to pull yourself together or man up because only thick twats come out with that garbage. It is clear that this is all getting to you and just maybe you need to give yourself a little whisper or two. Remember its not the actual government who will sort this out, thank fuck its not their job, its the science bods and the medics and I think they are worthy of us having a little faith. Hang in mate.

Were awaiting test results again, second time in four weeks after the little one came home from school with a temperature. Probably just a reaction to the flu vaccine she had last week, but been told to not expect the results until next Tuesday, which will be five days after the test was taken, due to lab backlogs.

In the meantime the primary school are chasing us for the result so they know if the bubble at school is at risk, and my wife is panicking about not being able to take her elderly mum for her cancer review at the hospital on Tuesday. Not sure mum in law can make it there alone, she's not coherent with any predictability.

Again, as with last time and the months before, the issue seems to be a lack of capacity in the labs and in informing of results over the phone. Why hasn't this been addressed? It's the weak point in the system and needs attention.

If it's 4 to 5 days now, January won't be much fun. The amount of people missing work, children missing school, because of the rest backlog must be in the tens of thousands per week, if not more.

Two of my bothers and one of my sisters-in-law had Covid tests recently (within the last 3 weeks) and all results came back within 24 hours.

It may well depend on where you live/your test centre is or just that demand on results has increased.

As a side issue, I would advise that the youngest brother went to a centre near Walkden; he was negative but I’m not convinced his result was correct (explanation below).

His symptoms were an extremely sore throat with headaches.

The second brother “didn’t feel right” and eventually started to come down with flu like symptoms. His test was positive.

Incidentally, both had been in contact (outdoors) with each other a few days before they started to feel unwell.

His wife then started to feel ill and also had test (at the FC Utd ground unfortunately!) - it came back negative but as her conditions worsened, she took a second test a couple of days later. This time she went to to a test centre at Abraham Moss. This test returned within 24 hours and was positive.

I have a sister who is a nurse; during the first wave several patients were admitted on her ward who had tested negative only to test positive when retested on their ward. I asked her about this and she explained that unless the swab obtains an adequate sample, it will not give an accurate result. Her view was that the initial swabs weren’t being taken correctly; it’s a very uncomfortable process.

With the tests taken on my family members, they all carried out their own swabs - I believe this is normal procedure.

When taking her second test, my sister-in-law told me that whilst she obtained the necessary swabs, she was supervised by a member of staff throughout the process to ensure an adequate sample was obtained; this did not happen at the FCU facility and she concedes that she probably didn’t do it correctly on the first test.

On that basis, I am of the view that my youngest brother did not carry out his swab test adequately (he was always mard!)

Fortunately in his case, he works from home and decided to follow the 14-day quarantine process anyway.

My concern is that if tests are producing false negatives because the swabs aren’t being done properly, are these people inadvertently spreading the virus into the wider population because they think they’ve probably had a mild cold/illness and therefore, haven’t quarantined for the requisite amount of days?

Did anyone warch Andrew Marr and get any comfort from anyone on it?

Scientist says basically we are all doomed and this is just going to keep getting worse unless we all stay inside forever. Slightly over egging what he said but it came over like that.

Tory minister asked why his constituency gets some new grant study fund and he says it was on the short list but decided by someone else for fairness. Marr asks who. He says. Then Marr says - but this MPs constituency got on the list too? Yes, agreed the minister - but he did not get to decide for fairness just like I didn't with mine. No, you advised on that one, didnt you? Marr noted.

On comes Labour from the North. Are you going to block these plans to shut down the North West? Yes says one. No says another. Maybe says someone else. But probably not as we have to do something.

About the one thing they all agreed on was the north was being ignored and they are being denied access to the key data the government are using to make decisions about hospitality needing to close. And they have asked and asked and asked to let the tracing be done locally as it is far more successful when it is but kept on seeing it contracted out to people down south on a contract just to phone people up. In places most of them have never heard of let alone know the first thing about.

No surprise we are where we are. I suspect what we needed from last Spring was a government of national unity running this pandemic like a war.

But national unity is about as far away in 2020 as World War Two feels right now.

Sometimes you just want to put your fingers in your ears go la la la and whistle till it all goes away. As it will. Though probably despite - not because of - our glorious democracy.

In politics, the concept refers to a strategy that breaks up existing power structures, and especially prevents smaller power groups from linking up, causing rivalries and fomenting discord among the people to prevent a rebellion against the elites or the people implementing the strategy. The goal is either to pit the lower classes against themselves to prevent a revolution, or to provide a desired solution to the growing discord that strengthens the power of the elites. It was heavily used by British Empire in India and elsewhere.[9]

The principle "divide et impera" is cited as a common in politics by Traiano Boccalini in La bilancia politica.[10]

Restaurants operate at around 65% dry margin, pubs (managed houses) wet margins are similar maybe a touch more at 70%, tenancy could be as little as 40%.

Now subtract wages at 25/30%.

Utility ...etc

Put simply there is no way to discount and still make it worthwhile to open the doors.
This. Someone on here said the other day anyone in industries that are forced to close and receive the 65% of their wage should be happy with that. I couldnt survive on a 35% wage cut!
