Just spoke to my son over there. He reckons he's taking Wednesday off, even though he's working from home. Said he won't be able to concentrate on his work while watching the news.
The American news media have lost all sense of professionalism and impartiality. There are few American journalists any more; they are all simply pundits pushing their own personal political agenda.

That's how I see it too, but then a part of me wonders if this isn't just the way Trump/Bannon want us to see the media and are we still being played?

This, yet again, generalizes, simplifies and underestimates how difficult it is to be a member of the news media doing a quality, rigorous, impartial job under these circumstances as the vast majority of the professionals in the industry do now and have done. Really frustrating. Plenty of high quality news sources out there if you look, and understanding the difference between reporting and editorializing should be something thoughtful people can manage. In addition, we’ve never been nor will be as bad as the worst UK media outlets, nor as good as the best ones IMO.

Yes. Of course you are. CNN veered left editorially to combat Fox — ten years ago they were a down the middle news outlet more about consistent updates than injecting opinion.

Honestly if people really are worried about their own inability to tell the difference between news and editorializing then just fucking don’t read any story without a Reuters or an AP byline. Problem solved.

Got it in one!

SOME of the media has become a Machiavellian Tool, but they’re stuck, because of the clickbait rod they’ve made for their own backs. The media of which I speak is that which has turned itself into an online profit centre, as opposed to maintaining journalistic standards.

Much like the million new bloggers and bloggers, almost anyone can SAY they’re a news outlet, and they’re popping up like zits on a 13 yr old boy!

Personally, I try to stick with the dailies that have mileage and magazines that have stood the test of time and allow for long form stories. I feel fairly well informed and rarely find myself caught short on knowing the main points of any news issues of the day. Too many people have been sucked into their own echo chamber that simply reflects back to them things that reinforce that they are smart and in the know!

How can anybody expect the media to be impartial when one of the parties is led by a sexual abuser who endorsed a pedophile in a senate race and spends most of his time tweeting conspiracy theories and spreading a deadly virus around the country?

The media can't be impartial when there is no rational reason to support Dumb Donald.

I’ve taken the week off to fully sequester.

And the week after. And the week after that.

Mind, I took leave from my company earlier in the year... but I am sure I would have attempted to take November off, if not.

I currently reside in the largest city of a state with a small urban centre / very large rural area swing state, and there have been rumblings of Election Day (and after) actions by militant Trumpers for some time now. And this is one of the less contentious states.

If I could vote, and was physically able, I would have done so by absentee, dropped it off, canvassed, and volunteered to be a legitimate poll observer.

As it is, I’ll be a lame foreign observer, pouring over exit polling, voting statistics, and expert data analysis, whilst desperately hoping things don’t kick off at the polling places, police station, or city hall just down the street (in opposite directions).

This next week (and the weeks to follow) will likely be engrained in memory.

I can only hope it is mostly due to it being a decisive victory against rising fascism, one way or another. Though, as those who have seen my ramblings in the Trump thread can attest, I have no great belief that will be the outcome.

Cos I've not seen a pro trump news channel at all thankfully from where I'm sitting. Admittedly I don't see Fox which seems to be the only one.
Fox and OANN (which is Fox on meth, fingering its cousin) are the main TV ones, then online there’s Breitbart, Infowars, the Epoch Times et al as you get further down into the alt right rabbit hole.

So what gives reuters or ap more credence ?

I've only watched cnn or msnbc. But I can still see through their fixations.
