Completely agree in regards to exercise and the benefits to both physical and mental health, but I'm also skeptical that the number of infections in gyms are as low as they are, I go to North Manchester David Lloyd and there's quite a few scruffs who lack basic hygiene so for that reason I haven't bothered since it reopened. They also had to email a few weeks back because "a few members" (if it was just a few you'd speak to them not send an email out?) were breaking the rules.

Fingers crossed this four weeks does the trick and everyone can go back to assessing their own risk exposure in December.

Re read my post, I’m ok mainly but plenty won’t be. You obviously don’t use one so it doesn’t affect you so you’re not arsed, if you did you’d feel a lot differently.
I am arsed, but still feel people sacrificing a few weeks is small beer if we come out of lockdown in better shape than we went in

Interestingly, now we are going into lockdown based on cases, at the start of this it was the death figures we were looking at, why the change? Every single news channel was broadcasting hourly updates on deaths now it is cases, more people are being tested so of course that will be on the up, but it is showing that it is not as contagious to the vast majority of the public as we first thought. So.... do we do this continually until there is a vaccine? Will there be a mass roll out of vaccination for a virus that will affect 1% of people, most of whom are elderly and have existing issues?

I am not in favour of countries going into lockdown, it is creating other issues, poverty and social unrest for one. If we are going back into lock-down, then the first one didn't work did it? It this going to be on going indefinitely? Is it not feasible for vulnerable, eldery and anyone at risk to isolate along with anyone who feels worried by covid who wishes to work at home and socially distance? I am playing devils advocate a bit, I see a lot of people on here who are almost calling a full lockdown on, but there is also a rising % of the population who question its'' validity.

From the announcements lockdown is about the demographics of who is being infected. while it was the younger generation we could happily say that the NHS woudn't have issues so much. however its taken a shift to the older generations being infected so they can start to map out and predict numbers that will translate into hospitalisation and deaths.

From a selfish point the last lock down was actually brilliant for me.I lost 35 lbs and managed to do a lot of indoor exercise. My wife is convinced that helped me to recover faster from Covid that I contacted, due to the weight loss.
I`ve now only got a month to lose another stone. ;)

No, what I’m saying is the gym is a safe environment for many people who won’t want to exercise outdoors. Yoga, Pilates other classes have been done in safe clean environments, these can’t be done outside. Plus if you’re used to lifting heavy weights for example how can you do that outside? How do you swim outside at this time of year?

Outside of hard core body building and swimming all of that can be done at home.

Even then, Body building can be done at home. depending on how you wanted to do it. unless your having to count weights / reps you can do resistance training like pushing walls. Its not a long term fix but it works.

While it was a long time ago I used to do body building, the pushing walls tip came from someone at full exhibition level. I even heard of some bench pressing paving slabs.

Its not a proper replacement but there are, in the most part, alternatives.

Six days a week I go to the gym. Everyone wipes down their equipment, distances themselves from each other, wears a mask when entering and in the changing room, etc. To close them with the data around them is ridiculous.

The real issue is the schools. I occasionally see the school bus when walking back from the gym - the fucker’s full to the brim with school kids who definitely aren’t distancing, and most not wearing masks.
If they aren‘t letting you play tennis or golf, both outdoors with virtually no chance of transmission, you’ve sadly got no chance with gyms.

kind of my point, there is a very small % of people affected by the actual virus, yet this isn’t targeted to them, instead it’s mass rolled out. You others might think my attitude selfish and that ok, but this could and should be handled better, people who probably wouldn’t even know the difference between covid and a common cold, are having a different issue forced upon them.

An obvious statement, but being overweight and not looking after yourself is fucking madness if you want a quality life.

Well done for doing something about it.

A well thought out and extremely useful comment. I shall take it on board.

Anyway, enough of reading this shit, I’m off to light a fire, have some dinner and then watch Fargo.

I shall possibly return in the morrow when you’re not around shouting down everyone who dares to see things in this world with a little more colour than your two tone ways.

I’m sure the weight loss made a huge difference to you recovery, I was happy with my 20lb, 35 is impressive.

What should have happened was the week before half term, 16th October, schools should have closed for two weeks for a two weeks half term and parents told that their kids had to isolate at home for two weeks, just like they have to if they get a case in their class, but the entire secondary school and college population.

That would have been the real circuit breaker this country needed ahead of the Winter months.

Instead we are running the risk of people losing jobs, businesses going under and the govt dishing out needless furlough money because we’ve shut the wrong areas of society.

Because everyone spreads it , are we really here after all this time

Phew

Of course what you say is sound advice, but playing devil's advocate, you could say it's about WHEN you want a quality of life. Lounging around, drinking too much and eating pies, I find to be extremely high quality ;-) Though it may not be ideal preparation for old age, I grant you.

yoga/Pilates can be done outside, as for swimming, its a bit cold but more than able to swim outside and I'm sure its a lot healthier than the skin, piss and chlorine soup people usually swim in

I agree to an extent, but what about the social aspect of it? The lonely lady who only sees like minded individuals at yoga or Pilates, not classes where people are blowing out of there arses, a friendly face who makes them feel worthwhile? For some that may be all they’ve got and that is being taken away from them when they know cases in gyms are minuscule compared to other environments.

yep; because I’m interested in the end result. It’s a virus of course it spreads and to be honest it needs to, but most people brush it off. How long will limits be placed on people who won’t be affected? Does this go on forever? It’s a valid question, why aren’t we isolating people at risk, instead of everyone again?

You have to remember that I am disabled so at 70 years of age its not as easy to do much exercise. However its more how I feel nowadays in myself and there is no way I will be looking to pile any more weight on and regularly check my weight.
I do feel that with this next lock down I may be able to break into the 13 stone mark, something which I have not been since my 30`s.
