yoga/Pilates can be done outside, as for swimming, its a bit cold but more than able to swim outside and I'm sure its a lot healthier than the skin, piss and chlorine soup people usually swim in
How can they be done outside in this weather? Who’s taking the class?
As for swimming outdoors, tell me where in north Manchester I can do that safely and legally.

Regional hospital data not quite so good as some for NW but not a disaster. And not the worst. Generally a good day for all. Bar London.

London patients UP 64 (most in UK today) to 921. (674 last Monday) Ventilators UP 3 to 134 (110 last Monday)

Midlands patients DOWN 94 to 1764. (1344 last Monday) Ventilators DOWN 6 to 191 (was 153 last Monday)

NE/Yorks patients DOWN 212 (!) to 2162. (1806 last Monday) Ventilators DOWN 10 to 140 (was 128 last Monday)

North West:-

Patients UP 43 to 2703 - highest since 16 April - just 3 days away from the most Covid patients in during the first wave - just 187 more than the NW has today. (was 2309 last Monday)

Ventilators DOWN 2 to 209. (was 200 last Monday. This is actually 6 down on the 215 it was last Tuesday and it has been coming down slowly since.

Gyms, for the last time, are having hardly any impact on the rise of cases, this has been pointed out many many times yet you just won’t accept it. I’ve more chance catching it in the supermarket or on public transport than I have of catching it in the gym or swimming baths.
My other half is front line NHS. They had a knee injury in August and can no longer run. They’ve been going to the gym to try and keep fitness levels up. Because of their job, they’ve avoided pubs etc, but says the gym is the cleanest, safest, most responsible place they’ve been in.

yep; because I’m interested in the end result. It’s a virus of course it spreads and to be honest it needs to, but most people brush it off. How long will limits be placed on people who won’t be affected? Does this go on forever? It’s a valid question, why aren’t we isolating people at risk, instead of everyone again?
Because you cut it off at source , people at risk covers millions of people , most of them working , it is just not feasible to lock people away , you have no idea how it will affect you and who you might kill because you passed it on , it is a collective effort , there is no alternative , no it wont be forever

Ive been saying the same for weeks and SAGE and the govt clearly haven’t stepped foot in one to see how they’re being run.

I agree to an extent, but what about the social aspect of it? The lonely lady who only sees like minded individuals at yoga or Pilates, not classes where people are blowing out of there arses, a friendly face who makes them feel worthwhile? For some that may be all they’ve got and that is being taken away from them when they know cases in gyms are minuscule compared to other environments.
Come off it mate, we are talking 4 weeks of not going to the bloody gym. It's hardly 15 years in a Siberian labour camp is it.

Honestly, people need to just get a bloody grip. I have every sympathy with gym (and other business) owners, and hope they can make it through this. Individuals who can't go to the gym for 4 week? Boo fucking hoo. Stop whinging and suck it up, like the rest of us have had to suck this up for the past 8 months.

If you could ask ten different people as to who would be classed as vulnerable, how many differing answers would you expect?

You have to remember that I am disabled so at 70 years of age its not as easy to do much exercise. However its more how I feel nowadays in myself and there is no way I will be looking to pile any more weight on and regularly check my weight.
I do feel that with this next lock down I may be able to break into the 13 stone mark, something which I have not been since my 30`s.
No,i understand, and that makes it even more commendable.Even sat in a chair and lifting/pushing light weights will help enormously and maybe concentrate on your diet that bit more if exercise is prohibitive.

My old man,at 76 and after 2 heart attacks, has just rediscovered the exercise bike after 20 years of neglecting himself.....its doing him wonders and he really enjoys it.

What should have happened was the week before half term, 16th October, schools should have closed for two weeks for a two weeks half term and parents told that their kids had to isolate at home for two weeks, just like they have to if they get a case in their class, but the entire secondary school and college population.

That would have been the real circuit breaker this country needed ahead of the Winter months.

Instead we are running the risk of people losing jobs, businesses going under and the govt dishing out needless furlough money because we’ve shut the wrong areas of society.
Agreed mate. It’s ridiculous.

My girlfriend’s a teacher. They have bubbles for each year group so they’re all separated whilst in school. That includes siblings.

The whole bubble theory is based on stupidity. How can you separate kids, ignoring for a minute that they’re kids and will do what they want outside of the classroom, and focusing on the fact that the ‘bubble’ is based on separating people who live in the same bloody households!

Sadly the next four weeks will be futile without their closure.

Because isolating just those at risk is a sound bite and not a practical course, hence why not one country has tried it. Like a tap when the NHS capacity starts to be threatened, when ICU increases deaths will follow. The tap needs turning down or off before it’s too late. The longer it’s left the harder you need to turn off the tap.If it was done 4 weeks ago it probably wouldn’t need to be this hard.
Does it go on for ever, no as IMO it’s being done with an eye on a vaccine at some point, a point the government will have as part of their plan. Though they wouldn’t make it public their comments about spring give a clue to their timescale., all being well.

Of course what you say is sound advice, but playing devil's advocate, you could say it's about WHEN you want a quality of life. Lounging around, drinking too much and eating pies, I find to be extremely high quality ;-) Though it may not be ideal preparation for old age, I grant you.
Each to their own Chippy ;-) but as a decent member of society..... then you surely have an onus to not be a burden on the NHS/welfare?

well my parents had it and I was around them during that period so it’s likely I had it and for me it wasn’t a big deal. The term collective effort I agree with, we have to collectively find away to help others whilst carrying on. I read somewhere ( correct me if I am wrong ) the average age of mortality is above the National life expectancy?! There is a lot of hysteria out there, the media doesn’t help. My sister has mental health issues and yesterday had a cough. She tried to call my mum at 2am who had her phone off. This morning she went nuts because what if she died over covid! Just a small example of what this is doing to people

It’s not so much people at risk who need isolating because the spread will still happen and once they come out of isolation they’re as likely to get it than at any other time.

It’s the biggest spreading areas of society that need short sharp hard lockdowns.

However, by keeping schools open, they have not done this. Eventually what I can see happening is that schools will end up closing for another extended period of time because they haven’t done it for a short hard period now.

Next lock down and I want to lose a further 11 lbs which would take me into the 13 stone area.
Started lockdown on 15 st. Been stuck on 13st 7 for weeks now, get it down to 13/5 then next thing it’s back to 13/7. My target was 13 this last half stone is a bastard. Maybe a month lockdown before Christmas would do it. Don’t think I’m getting one though.

Hopefully the stopping of mixing in houses (which did need to happen) is what will actually bring the numbers down. As it was that and schools that are creating this problem.

But people will lump that together with closing gyms and coffee shops and say “look gyms and coffee shops being closed made the numbers come down”.
