It's a genuinely positive piece of news that gives hope to people. There are people with mental health due to the pandemic. I would think a number of them are suffering (maybe people who read this thread) because all they hear is bad news and think this will go on forever. If every piece of good news has to have caveats attached, then maybe all the bad news should too and subject to the same level of scrutiny.

why would they make the numbers up, or is it just another cock up, the latter more likley me thinksHard not to be suspicious of today's data as it is extraordinarily good all round.
Regionally:
London 1739 - down from 2056 - but tops the 100,000 cases today at 101, 225.
Midlands 1726 - way down from 3254 to lowest numbers in 3 weeks.
North East 1039 - down from 1176 but little change as they have been 1000/1100 for some time.
Yorkshire 2906 - down from 3800 to lowest in about a week.
And North West - 3246 - down from 4045 - third straight fall from totals over 5000 last week and lowest in the region for 4 weeks.
The data today is very odd.
My concern is more that we're starting from such a high number that for this to work, the number of new infections each day probably needs to collapse to 500(?) per day for it to make a difference. I just can't see that this will happen.

We should be locking down more.If I can get on a bus, tram or train, if I can go to the supermarket, if I can still go to work (if I can find a job) and sit with people at desks or work stations then I should be able to use the fucking gym or swimming baths. So when we were getting about 6000 at day it would have been about 60,000 really.Based on deaths, it would not surprise me if the number of those infected were higher at the time we locked down first. After all, around two weeks later over 1000 died, at least, on one day.

Liverpool was below 200 for the first time since I have been tracking it and under half the level it was when they went into tier 3. Fourth straight fall.
Knowsley too fourth straight fall to one third the number it had pre Tier 3.
Wirral too 100 fewer than pre tier 3 at 61.
Elsewhere everywhere was down pretty much. Why it is so suspicious.
But if this data is for real today and nothing has gone wrong somewhere with testing (as if!) it is very encouraging.
