They are not in a position to tell us much more at the moment as they only have data for 6 months.

It's a genuinely positive piece of news that gives hope to people. There are people with mental health due to the pandemic. I would think a number of them are suffering (maybe people who read this thread) because all they hear is bad news and think this will go on forever. If every piece of good news has to have caveats attached, then maybe all the bad news should too and subject to the same level of scrutiny.
it is important not just to cherry pick the headline because it is what you want to hear , i think you should read the whole thing , the immunity question is a vital one

My mental health is shit but i believe in knowledge is power

Other highlights. Will post the GM scoreboard later

Bradford well down on a long run in the 400s/500s at 344 was 1 ahead of Birmingham at 343.

Liverpool was below 200 for the first time since I have been tracking it and under half the level it was when they went into tier 3. Fourth straight fall.

Knowsley too fourth straight fall to one third the number it had pre Tier 3.

Wirral too 100 fewer than pre tier 3 at 61.

Elsewhere everywhere was down pretty much. Why it is so suspicious.

But if this data is for real today and nothing has gone wrong somewhere with testing (as if!) it is very encouraging.

I read The Guardian article on the same issue. You picked out the two caveats. Useful to always highlight the good news at the time and the basis on which the caveats were made.

Hard not to be suspicious of today's data as it is extraordinarily good all round.

Regionally:

London 1739 - down from 2056 - but tops the 100,000 cases today at 101, 225.

Midlands 1726 - way down from 3254 to lowest numbers in 3 weeks.

North East 1039 - down from 1176 but little change as they have been 1000/1100 for some time.

Yorkshire 2906 - down from 3800 to lowest in about a week.

And North West - 3246 - down from 4045 - third straight fall from totals over 5000 last week and lowest in the region for 4 weeks.

The data today is very odd.
why would they make the numbers up, or is it just another cock up, the latter more likley me thinks

My concern is more that we're starting from such a high number that for this to work, the number of new infections each day probably needs to collapse to 500(?) per day for it to make a difference. I just can't see that this will happen.

Based on deaths, it would not surprise me if the number of those infected were higher at the time we locked down first. After all, around two weeks later over 1000 died, at least, on one day.

I read it and picked the vital part , imo anyway , the point was made that it is a step foward in research but it cant be said it makes you immune , if you read it then you get both, giving you the balance , i assume people read things that are posted in its entirety

Another one with no idea of what lack of exercise for some people will do to them.
You're spot on there.
If I can get on a bus, tram or train, if I can go to the supermarket, if I can still go to work (if I can find a job) and sit with people at desks or work stations then I should be able to use the fucking gym or swimming baths. If kids can still go to school they should be allowed to play football at weekend. Either we lockdown or we don’t. So without being too rude you can stick your Boo Fucking Hoo up your arse. It’s a joke by this government who have no fucking idea what they’re doing.
Agreed. We should be locking down more.

They will have been much higher first time round, only the very ill going to hospital were being tested. If I remember they were saying the number of cases were estimated at10x higher than the positive tests. So when we were getting about 6000 at day it would have been about 60,000 really.

Could it not be partly down to the figures tending to be lower straight after a weekend? Plus maybe, just maybe, we’re past the peak in terms of infections, though sadly deaths may still increase for a while yet?

Whereas it's what now? 100,000 really? Who knows how many people are asymptomatic and not being counted in the 24,000 daily figures right now.

You are surely not suggesting the 24,000 includes every case? Of course it does not. You only get a free test right now if you have symptoms, or are living with someone with symptoms. So anyone who is infected and asymptomatic is probably not going to be included in those figures.

There's a reason the scientists are fearing this second peak may be worse than the first, and the reason is not that LESS people are infected.

Yes but the other day you said it was less than 4! At least now it’s six at least.

If we have to wear masks in public areas and advised to wear them when near others can anyone tell me why MP’s don’t wear them in Parliament? One rule for us and one for them as usual.
I agree, as representatives of the people they should be leading by example.
