They should at least keep the gyms open.

It's alright saying excercise outside but how realistic is that during the winter?

I'm a bloke and don't fancy going for a run outside in the dark, nevermind how women must feel.

Big girls blouse, the youth of today, you wouldnt have minded going for a run in the dark if you had half a dozen Millwall chasing you back in the 80s, and it used to piss down all day every day back then.

Had a few pieces bad news this past week and it's dawning on us that this Christmas may well be the last time we get to see certain family members. Puts a whole new slant on gatherings at Christmas for us and doubt we're the only ones in this position, or who have suffered loss this year and just want to see family to help heal themselves.

Will be watching the figures closely again now, hoping that maybe they'll let two bubbles at least meet up for Christmas. If they do we then have to decide whether to bring our kids out of school early to have a two week isolation period. I can't see these rapid tests being available to us in time. What a mess. See your relatives one last time or follow the rules, finding it hard to find any perspective here, someone always loses out whichever way we go.

It will be my Mums last Christmas for sure. Im trying not to get too focused on Christmas Day. Ive ordered her Christmas present early and she is having Chat magazine delivered weekly. Ill be visiting during lockdown to deliver groceries. She has my step father, but theres so many things we could have done this year with her. A crap Christmas just adds to the heartache of it all.

Under the Liverpool mass testing programme, which begins on Friday and will cover everyone living and working in the city, a variety of test types and the logistical help of the army will be deployed in a pilot to see whether mass population screening is feasible across other regions of England, as proposed in Operation Moonshot.

To be successful, it will need not only to find those who are infected regardless of symptoms, but convince them to self-isolate. Only 20% to 25% of people are estimated to quarantine fully when asked to do so by test and trace.

With that in mind, the government is also pushing forward with plans to cut the self-isolation period. It is understood to be preparing to make changes this week, including potentially halving the 14-day timeframe.

Bloody hell. Scousers getting special treatment again.......(:

That is what needs addressing, appalling stat

Apologies if this thread has been posted:

The death rate is no where near the peak of earlier in the year, 367 was the height of the last three months compared to 1172 in April and also consider we are going into winter and in Flu season. Naturally test results are up because more people are being tested. The evidence we have available doesn't support a full lockdown.

There is clearly contradictory evidence then and, as a Government, surely erring on the side of safety when unsure is not a bad thing

Well they make the decisions unfortunately, and have stated the rise in positive tests is why restrictions are being enforced. They do have opposition to the latest developments however. But, at the height of it we had few known cases and many deaths, now we have a massive surge in cases and less deaths, this despite a whole summer of everyone predicting trips to the beach and the pubs are going to cause a massive increase in death toll.

I thought it was the increasing hospital admissions being the driver this time

Listening to the news this morning and the Public Health leadership in Liverpool feels a lot more passionate than in Manchester or Leeds.

I hope the mass testing exercise proves a success.
That’s because Burnham is a grade A cockwomble who was spouting on the other week to boost his self inflated ego. Does anyone know what he has done for this region since becoming mayor as looking at what his manifesto was I am struggling to understand.

‘Only 20% to 25% of people are estimated to quarantine fully when asked to do so by test and trace’. And people blame the government for the spread of the virus. People need to look closer to home and be more accountable

I thought Burnham let himself down going on about hospital beds still being free when anyone whose followed the Covid news knew excess ICU demand was “baked in”

Hospital admissions and bed capacity are what is driving the new lockdown. My wife works in the NHS and had 2 operations cancelled Sunday night to be done on Monday due to lack of beds due to a rise in Covid inpatients. This is the knock on effect first hand. They have to be found the next available date. The list gets longer
