COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Both. Wales has a new set of rules coming in from Monday. So, different for everyone from life before the pandemic, but I don’t know how different from before the fire breaker as different areas had different restrictions.
Yes, we live a mile inside Wales but my youngest goes to school in Chester so we have to be conversant with both sets of rules

I know, but objectively she hasn’t. She’s introduced harder and longer lockdowns and yet the deaths have been worse.

The people who think she had done better clearly do not ‘follow the science’.

The argument that she has been clear and authoritative is without doubt, but she must still remain in the cock category if others with a better record are. Therefore cannot be said she is a better leader. Maybe just better at reading off the autocue?

Too many people judge based in what the want to see rather than what actually happens.
Or base it on what they see happening around them, we haven't had harder lockdowns, the first one went on 3 weeks longer, the second started sooner. Now we aren't locked down cases are level or falling, we probably won't lock dow, People in Scotland aren't stupid, support would soon drop off if she was performing like Johnson. Put it this way 3weeks ago Scotland was getting 1500, about 10% of uk cases as you'd expect, now about 1200, 5% of UK cases. Which is better. Ther's a reason the opposition parties have'nt been able to get anywhere near her, and she will probably increase her vote share in the spring.

Northern Ireland

8 deaths

595 cases from 42K tests

Rolling 7 day cases down again to 4160 from 4256 yesterday. 2 weeks of these falls have happened in their lockdown.

Age ranges of the 4160 : - 0 - 19 (548), 20 - 39 (1404), 40 - 59 (1290), 60 - 79 (596), 80+ (322) Falls in all age groups.

Patients 407 - 2 down on yesterday.

Ventilators - 39 - 3 down on yesterday

So in the last 24 hours England, Scotland and N Ireland have all seen FALLS in hospitalised Covid numbers.

Do not recall last time that happened.

Yet the only one that reportedly went up is coming out of measures in 3 days.

I hope she does increase her share.
As I said, and stand by, people only see what they want to see.

So the total UK deaths today (England hospital only - others all settings) is 270.

Last week it was 211. Which became 274 on all settings later after England out of hospital added.

IF the % rise today were continued like this week to week over the next month we would be talking something like 750 or so deaths + whatever add ons for England all settings brought.

Big IF of course. But its a kind of target to see how we actually go in this coming month with the restrictions.

Think we are not too far from another lockdown in my region of Spain.
We had done very well the last few months but once tourism was encouraged it was only a matter of time.
New rules coming into place with restrictions on capacity for bars and restaurants and many shops being told to close.
Over the last 3 days I've been told of at least 12 people I know on a personal level who have tested positive, half of them entertainers.
Looks like a good time to trim my 'plants' that I have growing on the roof..

17 days was always going to be too short a period to say anything definitive either way

But Wales now has 3 out of the top 10 GB local authority areas with the highest rates of infection, including Number 1 (Merthyr Tudful) so I'm doing to stick my neck out and say "Not a success".

The WHO have said lockdowns don't work, Wales has helped prove that. Shame we are not listening to them on this one and going off made up figures.

She has been clear, calm, giving clear instructions and rebukes when necessary and doing daily pressers, contrast with our blustering burk, making promises he cant keep and giving people last chances to flood the streets before each measures, nothing like a leader
But she has still presided over more deaths from covid and numbers of excess deaths over the pandemic than most countries. Deciding who has done better is a bit like being very hungry and choosing between a dog-shit and a horse-shit sandwich...

Anyone know about tests carried out on this nasal spray that on ferrets has supposedly completely stopped them from getting covid just by spraying it up their nose?

Obviously humans are not ferrets and no published results I could find which is a bit suspicious.

But presumably someone is investigating this claim.

Think the Scousers are confused. Are they queuing for Covid test or to catch Covid? Or possibly 2 meters is a different distance in Scouse land.

I’m in Valencia where we had been doing really well. All going belly up now though. Spoke to my doctor mate the other day and the main city centre hospital is now completely full. We’ve had a few more restrictions today and will have more in the next week or two.

I agree that there's no point in deciding who has done better, at least at this stage of events. But remember for everything that she's doing, it's effectively with one hand tied behind her back. Not using this to defend or praise her actions, merely stating it makes it even harder to judge how she's handling something like this. The only thing I can say, and it is a positive, is that she's clear and concise in her instructions and her reasoning behind decisions which she makes, and comes across as a human being with human like emotions, which bizarrely can't be said for all politicians regardless of party.

Ages of infections Scotland

127 people over the age of 65

***Deaths***

Regional scoreboard:

London 1948 - down from 2083

Midlands 2872 UP from 2380 - closest I think Midlands has been to the NW in numbers. A month or two ago it was usually under half the NW total daily.

North East 1453 down from 1570

And North West 3689 - DOWN from 4594. Only one total lower (3246 - 4 days ago) in the last 3 weeks.

So three regions down and one up?

Sounds like Nicola is a better tv presenter than other politicos?
Personally, whilst she’s better than Johnson, I find her dour and a touch condescending.
