Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

We had a great chance today to lay down a marker and mustered two shots on target all game against a centre half pairing of Matip and Gomez. Nowhere near enough from that midfield today, players need to start putting a shift in quickly.

A weak individual who has no presence. A non-City example would be when they won the ball but he stopped the game to book Sterling even though they were on the break. I could be generous and say he knew Arnold needed treatment but I don't think it's true. I think he is/was simply out if his depth at this level

The fact that he gave a free kick for the same foul on Kev right after he ignored the one on Raz (right before them getting a pen at the other end) tells me that he's a ****. The fact that this happens every fucking time we play them makes me sick.

If we are within 5/6 points of the leaders come the new year then we can definitely mount a challenge. We seem to have sorted the issues at the back, now Pep needs to resolve the problems in attack which I am hopeful he will once Jesus and Aguero get fully fit.

There was one occasion where Mane 'won' a free kick on the edge of the area. I will have another look at the alleged foul tomorrow but the strange thing was that he just sank to his knees with his feet together in a very unnatural way fir some one running forwards.
 
Judging by some of the replies I must of watched a different game to most. Credit to Liverpool 1st 25/30 mins as they looked good going forward & closed the space for Rodri & Gundo to receive the ball off the defence. Once we finally settled down we grew into the game & we should of gone in 2-1 up at half time, great turn & finish by Jesus to equalise & cant believe KDB put it wide. We really were spoiled when we had Mario or Yaya as our pen taker.
2nd half I felt we dealt with Liverpool comfortably & we controlled their dangerous forward line well. This season our success won’t be down to free flowing football like In Peps 2nd & 3rd season but a solid base of Dias & Laporte with Rodri or Gundo in front. Would of loved to of seen Phil on for Raheem to get at Milner last 20 mins.
To assess the season so far we have Done ok considering everything we have had to overcome, zero pre season, COVID & injuries. As long as we can stay within touching distance of the leaders by Christmas I think fitness levels will level out & we can be in the mix. Hoping a few of our players pull out the ridiculous international period & stay home for some rest.
 
People blaming Sterling, Jesus and Ferrin out for not scoring.. but exactly how many chances are we creating this season? Answer.. not many at all. It all stems from not pulling the opposition out of position by not moving the ball nearly quickly enough.. we have zero drive from midfield and when Kev is off as he was today we are not finding it from the Gundog and Rodri combo. We needed energy and drive during that last 30 mins.. both Bernardo and Foden should have been on and one of the pivots should have been sacrificed.

Movement and speed of play create space and chances.. we are letting our attacking players down with our current set up and we aren’t even changing it when the opportunity presents itself.

Spanish Dave picking up pockets is a noticeable absence to our play.. but it is what it is as he has gone so we need to find a way to and we are not doing it.

He's like Hamann on PEDs. Goes down to his knees lightning fast at every contact. Only difference is sometimes he goes so fast he follows through and faceplants.
 
Liverpool were there for the taking, poor performance. Should be converting those chances, poor pen from Kev and a rather poor game overall, his form has been shocking these past few games.

Great goal from Jesus, worked really hard but also missed an open header which he should've directed towards the net. Dias + Laporte and Cancelo were good, only positives from game. Should have won this, we had chances but laboured through second half for no reason, not good enough.

We're mocking the scum but only 2 points ahead of them on same number of games, makes me ill.

Mane looked like he was playing in roller skates today the diving twat. Every contact he fell on the floor the embarrassing ****. Clearly took a pace after the contact from Walker before the inevitable "taking the snipers bullet". How stupid to even make that challenge though?

Pawson was today's Pigmol patsy, gave free kicks for every challenge on them you could see the weak willed fanny react to scouse shouts on the sideline every time we tackled their men for the ball. It's become a game for overpaid fanny merchants who fall over to order and these whistling wankers give free kicks for fuck all.

How many times do we have to let these scouse shithouses get away with points we should be denying them? Too many!
Not a great performance but we should be consoling ourselves with 3 points.

Oh and Sterling back to be in invisible against these as well as FFS Kev!

You're not allowed to tackle Mane - if you do he's flying through the air screaming with arms and legs all over the place. Raheem stays on his feet and gets nothing. Fair play ?
 
The creativity has gone from our midfield and attack, so predictable and if we create a decent chance the percentage of conversion is abysmal this season. That isn't down to Pep, these players need to take responsibility.
 
It just wasnt 'the same' for me without a crowd but the old girl did inform me that l swore three times at the commentators just before kick off on either side of the Minute's Silence. Good job she didnt hear me when even after the penalty had been missed they went on and on about it.

The days of “not enough in that” are gone, contact means penalty, we’re playing catch up as the red media have allowed messers Salah Mane & Fernandez to change English football forever....it has amazed me how many times I’ve seen the refs running & pointing to the penalty spot at the Etihad this season like a 5yr old who’s spotted a frog, we then have to sit back and accept there was contact so it’s a penalty, diving, making the most of it, cheating is now seen as being clever and receives high praise from Spitty Keane & the rest, Christ on a bicycle!...they’d of been in the referees face, not to mention dishing out retribution of their own
 
Liverpool are too good a side to expect us to roll them over. Pressing them would result in the kind of counter attacks that allow their 4 forwards to prosper, everyone thinks we can just 'play like we used to' but there wasn't a Liverpool then. We have encouraged a raising of the bar and clubs are going for it; it is getting tougher, and don't forget the way they demolished us a number of times in the last three seasons. Get real is my outlook. We have to raise the bar again; a tough ask with the way injuries are pilling up and how crowded the season is. Maybe dump the League Cup?

Just thinking that the natural thing for someone running is to fall forwards in a diving sirt of motion whereas Mane goes downward at 90 degrees and Salah even does a complete 180 degree change of direction. Perhaps they do this to avoid being accused of diving. Cheating bastards.
