COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Myself and 3 other teachers (out of 10) having Covid tests today and not in school as a result of developing symptoms over the weekend. If that’s happening in my school, I’m sure as hell is happening in others.

Doing it for my own good? Or for the good of 1% of the population who are at serious risk? For my own good has cost me a long serving job, created major health problems for members of my family, cost the mental health of a couple of people I know..

As for once we’re through this... there no knowing when that may be if at all, by then our children and their children’s futures will be so bleak it doesn’t bare thinking about.

And finally, as for this ‘temporary measures’ being lifted. Scotland changed their tier system to 5 sections, in tier 0, which I think we’d all assume is normality, there’s the caveat of ‘with certain restrictions still in place’.
What? What are they still going to stop the population from doing after it’s all gone away.
Seriously some of these draconian measures are going to be with us for a very very long time
No. Scottish tier 0 is restrictions as they were in the summer, for when infections are at the levels of the summer. When it's gone awy there will be no tiers, or restictions.

So said kids can then take home to parents after mixing with other households kids... makes perfect sense.
Question, as you have me a little confused, what do you actually want ?

No restrictions ? or schools closed ? you've complained about both this morning, and then said it's ruining our children's and even their children's future.

It's a shit show whatever we do, we all know that, and it's completely apolitical because governments left or right are all doing as badly as each other, even in our own "united" kingdom.

There was a discussion on radio 4 the other evening and the Great Barrington Declaration was mentioned again.
Seemed rather balanced from those being interviewed (various doctors/professors but I'd have to try and find the programme). Certainly seemed like they wanted the conversation to happen at least (about the effects the lockdown is having on other health matters).
It's really tough and I'm cognisant of falling into the trap of being wholly one sided in all this.

That Pfizer news is interesting isn't it?

We need more information on how long it lasts. It sounds like you'll still have to isolate in some form between doses because it needs 2 doses to work?

Plus, I'd like them to be transparent and share their data on side effects, immune responses and organ function for each patient during the length of the trial.

Hopefully the positive talk translates into safe, measurable protection against the virus.

Scotland data up first as usual: Sunday data caveat

1 death

912 cases at 9.1% positive

363 Greater Glasgow, 219 Lanarkshire, 107 Lothian, 73 Ayrshire.

1226 in hospital - down 19

105 icu ventilators - down 6

Agreed and I imagine they'll be published in due course, but let's just look on the bright side for a bit!

Of course, don't want to take that away from anyone.

On a side note, is it possible for them to identify the weakness in this vaccine that stops it being 100% effective and perhaps see if another vaccine, if they were teamed together, could cover all the bases? Or potentially at least say if you're from population x you need vaccine a, and population y you need vaccine b? One for those more well versed on these matters than myself.

I don't know if this is down to vaccine nationalism but I've heard/seen a few negatives over the Pfizer news:

A: the Oxford one may probably be more effective longer term (fair enough)
B: Pfizer is purely share price driven...?

I read a nice retort to this from a well known us Virologist and his take is all these profits are returned back into further research for new vaccines/treatments outside of the likes of COVID19 (cancer drugs for example)?

Not knowing the industry I wondering how this really works?

Scotland 3 wks ago v 2 wks v last wk v today

Deaths 1 v 1 v 0 v 1 today

Cases 943 v 1122 v 951 v 912 today - cases are at a plateau but not really falling much in the way it is in N Ireland. Wonder why? Though they have stemmed the rise which was occurring rapidly and Nicola Sturgeon says it should 'give confidence' that 'the restrictions do work and what we are doing now is saving lives'

It is 'highly unlikely we will see any significant decrease in restrictions tomorrow' Nicola Sturgeon added because 'cases need to FALL not just stop rising'. She adds a decision will be announced tomorrow but in effect told you what it was here.

Patients 724 v 1052 v 1225 v 1226 today - as in the NW data last night but even more so here a virtual stalling of cases in hospital. Great news.

ICU ventilators 61 v 90 v 93 v 105 - less clear but this and deaths will be the last numbers to respond.

Everything closed for 3-4 weeks, everything. No mixing, no socialising, no shopping, food delivered by army and people tested before doing what is deemed necessary. Building sites, shut. Factories shut. No one in or out of the country.
Get this virus out of the country once and for all, anyone entering after the 4 weeks is rigorously tested and isolated until clear, or just let it run it’s course.. no half arsed measures which really are having little affect.

That’s my opinion.

Fair enough thanks for the reply, I suspect it's not how most on the thread would have expected you to reply.
