Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

Agreed KDB needs rest. Personally after the anxiety and frustration and even anger at playing shit to great teams completely off the park for 80 mins only for them to score with their only attempt at leaving their own half doing us with a sucker punch I've craved this sort of team for a while now.

This is how we will win the CL come the second half the season when hopefully our players are fitter than the start of the season. We'll win it with this solid defence. We won't ever win it the way we've been going about it no matter how exciting and beautiful that was to watch.

We've been spolit. We have a new team. It's time to start being more solid and pragmatic.

A diamond in a sea of dogshit this post.

What I will say is this- if Pep can be this pragmatic in the latter stages of the Champions League and the defence is as solid, we will win the CL.

I know this probably is going to sound like nonsense and don’t shoot me for saying it lol but is there a possibility we play better as a team without kdb?

hear me out , de Bruyne is no doubt our best player , for me he’s the best player in the league .He’s amazing and has been a brilliant player for us .
But thinking back to the 18/19 season de bruyne was injured for pretty much 80% of the season if I remember correctly , and we were more than fine without him , I’ve seen posters alluding to the fact foden can’t play in the centre with him and Bernardo can’t either .

It’s probably rubbish like I said , but would be interesting to see if he was out for a month or so how we’d get on on his absence, de bruyne kind of looks like he has a free role when he plays to me , he pops up everywhere ,coming deep , moving over to the right, always looking to make the killer pass , maybe without him the team is slightly more balanced?

The issue is though he is head and shoulders our best player , so we try and build the team around him can’t see that changing while he is fit and available.
And tbf in 17/18 when we hit 100 points the midfield triangle of kdb Silva and Fernandinho was the best midfield I’ve ever seen at city and the best I’ve ever seen in the premier league .
So yeah probably talking rubbish but is a thought that has popped up recently.

It's not as crazy as it sounds. I have always thought Bernardo shines more when KDB is not on the pitch. But they are both brilliant players. Perhaps the answer is to give KDB more of a rest and have a bit more rotation. We will need them both this season as we will, as usual, play 60 plus matches in all competitions.

As it happens I am lead to believe there are several bondage freaks amongst the more regular posters, if you could add some gimp suits and arse less leather chaps to your range of wares you could be onto a winner.
Add bejewelled cock rings and I could some posters might be tempted.

We won our last league game before today 1-0. The goal was entirely down to Sterling doing as good a run as you will see in Europe all season.

pace, tricky and skill.

No it wasnt...walker scored the goal assissted by KDB against sheffield. In fact there were multiple passes from others before it ended up with walker. It was effectively naff all to do with sterling go watch the highlights.

As to your question of replacement thats premature, however i dont for a second believe he is thriving on the left and i never have since he's played there(even stretching back to his awful spell on the left under pellers). Far better on the right. But regardless of position simply not clinical enough for a team with a more "pragmatic approach".

The stats on amounts of squandered chances bear this out. Anyone not viewing through rose tinted spectacles need only watch the lad. He can be a good player, but we need GREAT players with consistency to afford to sit off more and expect to win games(especially the big ones). He just isnt clinical and anyone arguing that simply must not have watched him very close in recent years, or tallied the amount of wasted chances directly involving him.

As i said previously imo the key issues are left back(mitigated beautifully by cancelo yesterday might i add), rodri position(specifically with gundo on the field), wingers who dont seem to threaten nearly enough thanks to the cutting in of everyone on either wing, and striker...be it through injury or lack of goals. In terms of the striking role, if it was something of an issue when we played wide open creating many chances, how bad could it be playing this more defensive style?

Something is simply not up to snuff when it comes to the final third, which pep himself specifically said WASNT his job when he joined.

City played well today but that front three not strong enough to win the league. Need too many chances and don't convert in big games. Sterling has run out if ideas. Look at Grealish for Villa and how he can run with his head up aware of his team mates movement.
another newbie going for raz

Season has a long way to go yet. So many teams will drop points. Drawing with liverpool is a good result for both.

In previous seasons our results against each other decided titles and momentum. Not this year. Both dropped plenty of points already and that will only continue.

What truly matters is we’ve gotten through a period of 6 weeks with no striker and we’ve fixed our defence.

We are so well positioned, people need to be less short sighted.

Couldn't agree with the highlighted bits more. I actually have confidence in that back 4. The most confidence I've had in a back 4 of ours for a while. Now that we're getting our forwards back fit and the team is getting fitter as a whole we should see a much stronger team. I wouldn't write us off going on a bit of a run after this international break providing no serious injuries are picked up between now and then.

One of the commentators mentioned that most of our passes were sideways or back while L'pool's passes were mainly forward. They really went for us and we scrambled a lot in defence.
When we attacked it was a sea of red behind the ball and pass / pass/ pass.....at one point we had a throw in near their corner flag and three passes later Eddie had the ball.

On another note - Kyle Walker. I think he has had a good season so far and yesterday was an off day. Doesn't make him shit, but he is 30 - we should be looking at his successor soon and not wait until he's finished before sorting it out.

We ain't clicking as we would like both in midfield and attack...but it is great to finally see our defence so assured.

There was a few times especially in the 1st 15 mins that made the heart race but they stood firm and it was only a stupid error along with a dive that got the dippers on the score sheet.

The media spinning it into a positive for the dippers, which if you look at it as we should have won 2-1 of it weren't for kev missing a pen, then yes it probably is

The midfield and attack need to start finding some ruthless form and get there passing and shooting boots on

This season is far from over and but we need to get the 3pts against spurs next.

I made a long and boring post on the exact same topic if you're curious.

Give over. You can honestly say you'd be happy with 6th? I'd be disappointed with anything less than first and if that makes me spoilt in the eyes of some, I couldn't care less. This season is a great chance to take advantage of the likely lower points tally required to win the league and the fact we have the best squad. I'm not fussed about the champions league and since we're on 9 points already Kdb, Sterling etc. shouldn't play another minute until the knockouts.
I'm with you. I just don't think the club are.
