Sharmer not boris and Stephen Powis

UK coronavirus cases rise to 33,470 - the highest ever tally

The figure is up from 22,950 on Wednesday

This is almost to a T what I hear from the 'I'm not an anti-vaxxer per se' crowd.
I've no way to unravel that whatsoever, or if he has motives behind it.

I can't see any other way of the world opening backup without either a proven vaccine or just letting everyone get on with it.

I know Michael Yeadon splits opinion as he is anti lockdown but he enjoys a crack at Hancock

Working in our town today I was surprised how many independent phone, pawn, and gift shops are still 'open'. They advertise its click and collect !, yet people knock on the doors and ask for what they want which is than brought to the door. Saw the phone shop tell some customers to go down the alley to the back of the shop.
Also surprised by the amount of school age kids in the town. Only kids of school are the ones who's year/class has been sent home to self isolate.

This isnt anywhere near a lockdown.

Business Secretary Alok Sharma says there is a fight to protect the economy, adding it remains 8.2% below where it was in February, and will keep providing business support.

Mr Sharma references the already extended furlough scheme, as well as other schemes and announces that £2.2bn will go to local councils tomorrow to help them make payments to local businesses.

He also praised companies that have adapted to the pandemic, such as breweries making hand sanitiser or companies providing PPE.

"We're forging a path out of this predicament", he adds, saying "we have secured access to 350 million doses" of vaccine - but wants the public to continue to follow social distancing guidance

Not bothering to post the hospital data. But it isn't good sadly. Huge rise in forthcoming deaths in the NW it would seem. All optimism of past days gone. Kaz can no doubt give you the details from Sky.

"More infections means more deaths and more people suffering the debilitating effects of long COVID," Professor Powis says.

His message is "don't stop now" when it comes to following the lockdown, despite the "hope on the horizon" after Pfizer's vaccine proved 90% effective.

He also urges people to get tested and isolate when necessary - this on a day when Test and Trace figures showed 40% of contacts of those with COVID are not being traced.

Have you got the hump ? As i said before the bottom line numbers are easier for me to understand

Were the cases definitely not to do with the Liverpool testing scheme?

i think that's it. his camp do push around some interesting data re tests and how it transfers through the system, but they are very unwilling to listen to other arguments. Most of the acolytes see themselves as the only ones seeing the truth. I have sympathy with the amazing loss of personal freedom and rights but some of the gibberish is annoying

Prof Powis says in March time he could see health systems coming under increased pressure, and testing was more limited, meaning capacity had to be created in the NHS to deal with COVID-19 infections.
"It was right that we ensured the NHS was ready for that... the Nightingales on top".
He adds that he wants to keep elective surgery going under this second wave, but does not rule out any more changes in the future.
