Heard an advert this morning advising Irish exporters/Importers to look at options for direct routes to Europe and avoid the land bridge.
They cited cost and non readiness of the UK. or th
I never expected it to be such a clusterfuck from the UK. Is bypassing the UK a viable long term option?
It would be great for NI if my thinking is correct?

Very much a viable option for Eire as shipping by boat would remove two customs examinations , the paperwork and the anticipated delays at the ports. They would also not need to bother with the Green card Motor Insurance requirements for their vehicles or the purchase of Health Insurance / Overseas Employers liability cover for their drivers

I couldn't find figure's but if a ferry or flight is significantly cheaper all round the added costs must be high unless the UK government absorb some of it but then tories, we all know that they probably won't.

So as predicted by lots of punters previously looks like it's coming down to the bare bones deal:
Fishing kicked into some three year transition agreement
Independent UK state aid regulator
LPF with tariffs imposed if either side violates.
No PRICE tariffs.

Obviously services are excluded, non price tariff barriers and lack of agreement on standards will kick in ( affects industries like automotive and pharma) and loads of other stuff ( border checks) which will make trade less frictionless. And for the present there will be no equivalence agreement on finance.
Lots of other stuff like security etc still to be sorted.
On the other hand according to Brexiteers Britain will be free to innovate free from the bureaucracy of the EU.
Worth remembering for balance that trade with EU represents about 11% of our GDP i.e. significant but not as much as many people assume.

PS Anyone know if we've got enough pallets?

They have already started launching them - its called preparation something our govt knows fuck all about

For once, I hope Farage is telling the truth.

(As in for once he may tell the truth. I always hoped he'd tell the truth but have always been disappointed.)
Most people except the extremists on either end of the debate have said all along that a compromise (deal) was inevitable. We are cutting it fine, but in fairness many have also said it would be an 11th hour job.

Nothing was ever going to be Brexit-ey enough for Farage. He’s a career heckler

Theresa May tried to appease the headbangers with ‘no deal is better than a bad deal’. Then rather than accept we need to compromise they jumped on the ‘no deal’ option. They will never be happy, primarily because what they want doesn’t really exist. Even if it did, it would be incompatible with the U.K. and the 21st century as a whole

This all comes down to the fall of the Empire and English exceptionalism. Look at it through that lens and this(and the pandemic fuck up for that matter) all makes sense
It's actually been both sides that were unable to accept compromise. If extreme Remainers were any more sensible than extreme brexiteers then based upon parliamentary arithmetic May's deal would have sailed through. The fact is it just wasn't remain-ey enough. It's all getting boring now - when we do get a deal in the next few weeks, not only will one set of extremists be calling it a capitulation, but the others will no doubt be calling for it to be torn up in favour of an extension of the transition so they can have another crack at revoke/remain. Arseholes on both sides.

What the fuck’s an extreme Remainer? There was only ever one version of Remain, unlike the dozens of versions of Leave ranging from BRINO to No Deal.

THERE WONT BE A DEAL .... HOW MANY SIGNPOSTS DO YOU NEED
Mate, your caps lock is stuck.I suspect there may be and Cummings going is either a sign that this is happening or that it may be more possible. I accept though there is a real risk that we may quietly leave on WTO terms. I think the correct hysterical extremist terminology for this is 'no deal' 'crashing' out etc.

So you’re saying there might be a deal and on the other hand there might not.

Good job you’re here to explain that. We’d never have fucking worked it out on our own.

If you say so, but I think that's just tory policy and nothing to do with brexit - they'd still be trying to do at least two of the those things whatever (and still will). Don't fall for their tough rhetoric on immigration. They need to import cheap labour as part of their low cost labour policy to keep the labour market 'flexible' and to keep British business 'competitive'.

No but they'll want ''their type of immigrant'' .... white , speaks english , educated ... willing to work for low pay.

Carnage at Felixstowe

Some of that is due to awful lot of containers containing PPE with nowhere to go as warehouses are full with stuff stockpiled for Brexit (compounded by shops currently being shut).

But no-one can say it wasn't foreseen.

A bloke I know works for a firm that imports white goods. They've stockpiled, because they anticipate a five mile queue of ships waiting to enter Felixstowe.
