I do agree with you, but kids only actually missed 14½ weeks of school during the last lockdown as there was two weeks of Easter, the May half term and the six weeks in Summer with all that too.

A two week proper school circuit breaker is absolutely needed soon, but certainly not to April as he suggests
my daughter has already missed six weeks of schooling since September in her gcse year as she has had to self isolate due to close contacts having had it. Schools and pupils have already been significantly disrupted and to even suggest otherwise is clearly nonsense.

The kids can learn online schools now have to close it's the only way otherwise we will be locked down till christmas the problem is also parents congregating outside school gates as well that should be banned I think it would be best that schools shut till April then we can reassess
A post from someone who doesnt have kids I guess? and therefore sees things very black and white?

Any news on when the Oxford Phase 3 results are going to be announced?
They've published their drug protocol designs in the US. They intend to look at the results, or an independent panel will when they get to 75 infections. But that's the US trial. That was suspended for about 6 weeks. I don't think it's fully enrolled either.

They made some unfortunate choices about where to conduct their trials too. They started trials in the Southern hemisphere (South Africa and Brazil) in June when it was quite obvious that their epidemics would decline within weeks as these countries approached their Spring, and they chose India which has one of the lowest Covid rates per capita. That leaves them with the US where their trial was suspended for weeks and the UK where the epidemic almost disappeared over the Summer.

I think that the Astrazeneca UK trial will generate results soon because the UK epidemic has now picked up but of course every time we go into lockdown we put back the Astrazeneca results.

If what we read is true that kids are catching and passing on the virus, something will have to give eventually. Maybe, the Government are content atm to allow it to continue as the prospect of a viable vaccine becomes nearer.
That may be happening in some schools but i know from having spoken to my daughters head teacher that transmission isnt occuring in her school. its outside. This is a half hearted lockdown compared to the first one and so many other things could be stopped before schools are closed.

If anything think it would be the opposite. With a vaccine near they could close early for Christmas and stay off for an extra week in the new year without much harm.
With no vaccine near then closing schools indefinitely wouldn’t be an option with the repercussions to families working and the economy.
I would say they are planning for vaccinations to be well under way by the end of January so a push now to keep cases and hospitalisations down until then would work.

We will prob never know how much school kids are contributing to the R number atm.

Probably right but they should be the very last things to shut imo.

What will affect the number more in the coming months is people refusing to believe a vaccine is safe and not taking it. But you dont agree with that do you.

Help me out and show me where I have said people will refuse a vaccine is safe and will refuse it as I think you have made that up.

Here we go again. lol. Well you said you wouldnt be taking the vaccine first time round. you then came up with the bizzare conclusion that if everybody did the same and didnt take it first time round, that wouldnt stop the uptake of the vaccine roll out. Some truly amazing logic.

You also forget the disasterous impact closing schiols again would have on a generation of young people.

I said people have the right to satisfy themselves it is safe to take before doing so. And I maintain that position

not much need for direct disclosure on this thread - we have lobbyists for

- school children
- gym goers
- golfers
- retirees
- business owners/self employed/employed in vulnerable sectors
- social withdrawal anxiety

We are just Levi wearing Chimps after all and are generally predisposed to revert to what’s best for ourselves and nearest and dearest - who would of thought it

I’ve not suggested anything like that
