Matt Hancock Coronavirus Update live on BBC 1 now.

Briefing and press conference will be at 5 pm.

Or thereabouts.

Professor Peter Openshaw on BBC1 now clearly amazed at the results - bearing in mind he was used to see 15-20 vaccine cycles.
Paves the way for these methods to be used on other viruses and illnesses too. This is something mentioned by some virologists at the start of the vaccine hunt: the off shoot of all this research means it could be hugely significant for other research (heck....finally ridding us of the common cold, but potentially more darker illnesses out there too).

Maybe 2020 will look different to future historians.

Surprise surprise, another press conference and as seems remarkably common Gov.Uk announce that the figures are delayed today and likely will not be out until it is over.

It will obviously drive all kind of conspiracy theories as it always does when this happens.

The health secretary says the average number of new cases is 25,329 - up from 22,443 last week.

He said 168 deaths were reported yesterday - an average of 414 deaths this week.

Mr Hancock says long COVID has lasting effects and impacts thousands of people - showing "this virus can strike us all". He says we need to follow the rules to strike back.
Coronavirus is not a short-term problem that can easily be fixed, he says, emphasising a focus on testing. Two new mega-labs will open in the new year, bringing a 600,000 daily capacity and 40,000 jobs.

More capacity speeds up turnaround times, Mr Hancock says. He said more than three million tests have been delivered to NHS staff this week.

Hancock: Moderna doses will be available from Spring next year as the UK has secured five million doses

daily briefing

From that press conference information, there are 700 additional cases to add to Liverpool's numbers for last week from mass testing of the population.
There were 1994.3 cases in Liverpool over the last 7 days at a rolling rate of @284.9 a day.
So this equates to 35% additional cases a day in Liverpool.
Assuming similar numbers across the North West and UK during lockdown it would indicatet a lower number of asymptomatic than the best guess in the USA of 50%.
Bet nobody asks about the roll out of the Liverpool testing to the rest of the country or as to what pillar results will be added or will a new Pillar be created?Of course did everybody get tested and were asymptomatic people picked up by normal testing?

Rapid tests in dipperland going well, going to be used in people with no symptoms , being used for school and students and will be used in care homes so they can have visitors

Yep. 60% on a great year.

Measles is about 80% about usually considered the most successful vaccine ever produced according to some bod I was listening to earlier.
Measles is at 99%. Two jabs and the first one does 90% with the second one doing 90% of what’s left. Only 1% not immune but, of course, depends on the numbers actually having the vaccine. It’s ‘R’ number is between 12-18, which is why people would be mad not to give it to their kids.
