Average of 413 deaths a day, last week? Hope nobody on the tv actually gave that as a true figure...
Hancock did

The health secretary says the average number of new cases is 25,329 - up from 22,443 last week.

He said 168 deaths were reported yesterday and there has been an average of 413 deaths per day this week - up from last week.

Heard with my own ears , this week, not last week

Test and Trace boss Susan Hopkins tells the briefing that lockdown tiers will have "to be strengthened" after the national lockdown is lifted.

She said Tier 1 had very little effect.

"I think when we look at what tiers may be there in the future we will have to think about strengthening them in order to get us through the winter months until the vaccine is available for everyone."

Prof Van-Tam: AstraZeneca vaccine data has not been looked at

England's chief deputy medical officer says it can not be known if a vaccine will work unless the data has been looked at, clarifying that nobody has yet examined the AstraZeneca data.

Professor Jonathan Van-Tam more encouraged by Moderna vaccine success

"It's brilliant news," he told the briefing.

The health secretary said: "Across diagnostics and vaccines, great advances in medical science are coming to the rescue.

"While there is much uncertainty, we can see the candle of hope and we must do all that we can to nurture its flame.

"But we're not there yet. Until the science can make us safe we must remain vigilant and keep following the rules that we know can keep this virus under control."

I’m sure he said it but I just wonder why he said it?

Probably because they have been quoting deaths based on the date that they were reported throughout the pandemic. There are different ways of counting the deaths and you dismiss one of the methods. Fair enough.

The number of cases has also gone off daily reported positive tests as you also know. (The day before’s reported figures in both cases). We know from other surveys that those figures probably represent between a quarter and a half of the daily infections but that’s the main way the Government reports them.

The date of infection / death might be more accurate in both cases but the approach has been fairly consistent. The figures are sad whichever way you look at them.

No, that would a stress test
Just catching up with the news and they were saying about this US vaccine that only 5% of those who had the vaccine and not the placebo went on to catch covid, therefore it is 95% effective. I might be missing the point or being thick, but surely to claim it is effective at protecting you from catching it, you must have been exposed to it and not catch it. As I say, I might be barking totally up the wrong tree.

I am only guessing but i think they test the blood of the patients v the vaccine and not the person, i am sure someone else would correct that if wrong
