because at least 30% of the people in any shop I've been in the past 3 weeks aren't wearing them, including staff, security guards etc.
Im not trying to raise an argument here, honestly. I come in peace.

in the last week ive been in a sainsburys in hazel grove and a tesco extra in handforth dean. I can say, hand on heart that i could count on one hand the amount of customers without masks , thats 2 stores added together. Staff maybe slightly more.

much as i disagree with alot said on here i RELIGIOUSLY wear my mask and sanitise when i go anywhere. Including the 4/5 houses i go in a day, despite probs a 1/3 saying i dont have to.

i think on the whole people are pretty good at masking up in shops etc.

or is it down to certain areas being worse than others ?

Wales - not good news either. Turning into a but of a downer today.

31 deaths 1020 cases

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v today

Deaths 11 v 13 v 29 v 31 today - bit worrying after their lockdown ended.

Cases 1737 v 1352 v 797 v 1020 today.

Patients 739 v 946 v 1066 v 1121 today

Ventilators 46 v 60 v 59 v 63 today

He/she was giving an opinion... if thats ok... on an internet forum.
Bet youre a right bossy bastard to live with

2/4. the other 2 will be here in a min

Yeah, and you're whining about victimhood. I bet you're a right whiny bastard to live with

Northern Ireland is better news - and they are going into a new lockdown to suppress further despite arguably having been the most successful in past two months.

Deaths 12 sadly. 3 F / 9 M ages 40 - 59 (2), 60 - 79 (5) 80 + (5)

Cases 369 at 14.3 % positive. Both new recent lows.

7 day total cases down again to 3230 - lowest in many weeks.

Age split of these cases - for the first time in weeks every range falls to under 1000.

0 - 19 (506) 20 - 39 (973) 40 - 59 (982) 60 - 79 (496) 80 + (274)

Patients 447 - down 9.

Ventilated 28 - down 6. Usual caveat ref deaths.

Care home outbreaks also down to 143 from 166

Dont think anyone is denying are they?

If you don't agree with the doom and gloom merchants then you're a denier. They can't see anything other than the stats the media put out each day and seem to forget that there are thousands of people dying every day of something. There are those on one side who want us locked down, schools closed and to not leave our houses and on the other side those who think it's all a scamdeminc. Most rational people are somewhere in the middle but that doesn't wash on here with some.

N Ireland 3 wks ago v 2 wks v last wk v today

More bollocks

So todays 3 nations case total with England to come is 2407.

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v today = 3574 v 3019 v 2761 v 2407 today - which is a steady if slow drop.

I have to agree with that. Most stores I go in there’s maybe one person not wearing a mask. 99% are. I mainly shop in Stockport, levenshulme. Maybe different areas are not so compliant, but I’d feel like social leper at present if I didn’t have one on.

Total deaths today without the England out of hospital yet to be added are 401

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v today = 211 v 270 v 342 v 401 today

That is actually a slow down of the increase week to week.

Last week the all settings number from that 342 went up to 376 when 34 were added from out of hospital in England.

Hopefully from that 401 base we will stay sub 500 today.

Putting yourself half way between public health experts and conspiracy theorists is not, in any way, rational.

must be, I'm giving an honest assessment of shops around me, I'd say comfortably at least 3 of every 10 people aren't wearing masks and it defeats the purpose, and then it's irritating when people say "see, they don't really work" when they clearly aren't being used as they should be, and it only takes a small number of people in one place not doing it properly to set off a spread. In the shop I just popped into, both servers and 3 customers out of about 8 people in the shop weren't wearing masks, as an example (I had to test in a machine whether my debit card is working or not as I've been having issues and the bank asked me to test it).

There's lots of reasons to be optimistic with vaccines, lower death rates, better treatments, starting to see more understanding of some aspects of long covid, but people's net behaviour has declined recently in my perspective and it's a problem. The prospect of people's opportunity to enjoy Christmas a little as a reward for behaving being crushed because we can't get cases down enough now as people aren't behaving is hard to take for people who've behaved the whole way through. We've closed a bunch of places to allow schools to stay open and keep cases at a steady level, now schools will close for christmas and the roles should be reversed within reasonable restrictions the other way to pay people back for their sacrifices this year.

So this whole "doom monger" vs "denier" thing is just silly, most people are hopeful if not optimistic in certain areas but concerned in others, blanketing it as one or the other just turns those concerns to frustration and anger and people boil over as a result.
