Saw this on twitter so obviously can't be relied on as factual although it does appear to be actual film of a parliamentary exchange. Rather unfairly it cuts off before Liz Truss is shown debunking the claims that Thornberry makes and I can't find film of that. Hopefully someone will be able to put me right on why Thornberry is talking rubbish about our great new Japan trade deal.

I've just had a look on Liz Truss' Twitter account, there is no video of her reply. I would assume, in the age of social media that if she had given a semi-decent response(which I doubt she is capable of) then it would have been posted

I watched it last night, I'd had a few cans so may have misjudged it, but wasn't Thornberry using Truss' own numbers?

But I did find one interesting Tweet from Liz.......1606473949009.png

Did you used to work for the HO?

Being a Salford lad I used to rely on admin staff to review my submissions to SoS, ministers etc. make grammatical corrections etc.

They of course needed me for all decision making and knowledge - but their contributions were also valued
Making you look good?

Fair point, which is why fish should be a good chip to use for leverage for more important concessions from the EU. Not sure what we’ve secured in exchange for the three year transition.
It wasn't a bargaining chip concession. Apparently it was in our interest (but no one said that on here until Saint Frost spoke from on high).

Yes - she was quoting projected figures of benefits we enjoyed as part of the EU - Japan Deal secured last year than quoting from Truss' own figures posted about the benefits of the UK - Japan deal which were demonstrably poorer than the ones we already had. She was using projected figures because for some reason Truss won't allow her own dept to confirm the projected figures of last years deal - probably because it shpws her up

Whatever side of the brexit debate you are on you can surely enjoy the embarrassment of Truss.Probably the best thing since Ed Miliband had BJ on the ropes a few weeks ago. Thornbury has had a few 'moments' of her own though...

I fucking love this post.

Hilarious.

I see your Emily and I’ll raise you an Anneliese.

Brillo Head's line of questioning is daft. Naming three Eurozone countries that have had harsher austerity and moving away from the point that she was making. She said we had declining living standards despite growth, Italy's economy has barely grown at all since they joined the Eurozone. If anything his examples prove her wider point that austerity is bad for an economy.

Not sure why that video is relevant to the Brexit thread either.

Fucking hell - takes some brass neck to turn up to an Andrew Neil interview as a shadow treasury minister knowing fuck all about the economy.

Given Andrew Neil is a political journalist and also knows fuck all about the economy or how it works or indeed about trade deals as a whole, that isn’t the take down you imagine...

Interesting.

The guy who graduated with honours in political economy and political science understands nothing about the economy or how it works.

Waste of time that degree.

You would have a great point but for the fact she is shadow chancellor and his own education which you should probably take a look at ;-)
