COVID-19 — Coronavirus

I find it pretty funny all these behavioural science arguments being put forward about the clearance of the Pfizer vaccine.

Been wondering if there is something different about this second wave. Has the virus become more infectious or deadly. The 1918 19 spanish flu second wave was different and more deadly than the first apparently. In this pandemic alot of countries have been worse hit second time round. You can kind of understand that in countries that have come out of a strict lockdown and then a second less strict lockdown. But you cant really apply that logic to countries that havent really had a total lockdown such as Sweden and Brasil. My understanding is that even in both these countries they have tried to implement more control measures but cases have still risen inexplicably after a steady and long decline. Surely these second surges just cant be down to just countries doing more testing.

I would imagine countries who are being hit hard the second time round put in stringent lockdowns back in March. You can hide people away for certain periods of time but they are still in play to catch covid at some point. The chaotic disorganised people doing what they want lockdown we have implemented in the U.K. may have accidentally in some way helped minimise the impact of a second wave. The death rate has peaked if you look at the figures at the moment, every covid death is tragic but we can be thankful we haven’t reached the dark days of April when a 1000 plus people were dying everyday.

Better treatments have come online which are improving survival rates. Will be interesting to see what happens on hospitalisations with the vaccine roll out, Jonathan Van Tam thinks hospitalisations will decrease by 99 percent with stage one of a vaccine being administered.

i understand and agree with you, but how does the above rationale explain the big second surges in Sweden and Brasil. Even in Germany, the country in Europe which has dealt with covid the best, they are really struggling to deal with a massive second wave.

its not only a meal with drinks but you are only allowed to sit down indoors and drink eat with your family or bubble, lots of people just totally ignoring the last bit.
Yes I no media make thing's look worse
But seeing pics this morning from around the UK,looks like a normal Saturday night out,but as I said earlier, most pubs ive seen are dead, unless your so desperate to sit outside in the cold to have a drink
Not for me,will be in the bogs more than outside pissing more than drinking..

Thought the rules are drinks only with a meal,
I understand some places will ignore the rules for financial gains..

I saw a pub advertising the dipper game on FB. Entrance at 7, so presumably exit at maybe 9.30/10. With a bowl of scouse as the meal. How long does that take to eat? 10 mins? Yet they are getting away with blatantly advertising the event!

You have previously said you are not in UK I assume you are based in Oman with circa 1500 deaths which may explain your stance.

Nope, I am a little closer to home, Netherlands. I have friends who are really struggling in the UK because of this, and a sister with depression who is struggling even more because of what's going on. There is a bigger picture here, hence my stance....

Germany had 22000 infections yesterday and 480 deaths, it doesn’t look like they have reached a peak neither. Cold weather is kicking in over Europe so I wonder if this will drive it with people being indoors and also perfect temperatures for bacteria to spread. Lockdown hit coming into the spring and there was some good weather across Europe back then which I guess would help getting people out doors and natural vitamin D.

I do wonder if covid fatigue is setting in with people and wonder if some populations are thinking bollocks to it and doing what they want 10 months into a pandemic. People took it seriously back in March but now there’s people out there thinking they are indestructible, look at America it’s horrific Biden will have his work cut out changing peoples attitude to covid in January.

I thought the idea was that you must leave after eating and drinks can only be served with food.

Does it really matter if someone eats their food and stays after for an hour? It’s standard in a restaurant to get the table for 2 hours what’s with all the faux outrage? People are trying to make a living under the current rules, fair play I say they are not breaking them so good luck to them.

My council which has been out in tier 3 saw the pound signs and allowed the Christmas market to take place from yesterday. A large group of people hijacked it and turned it into a full scale party which was eventually shut down. Some of them piled into public transport which the staff had no authority to keep your numbers down.

How do they react to this. "Suspend it for one day."

Nottingham City centre was rammed yesterday because of this plus all the numpties buying shit they don't need.

They'll be a huge spike here come Christmas Eve.

Jesus fucking Christ
Not entirely sure there’s need for such alarm.
A careful read of the piece informs that 80% of people would now take the vaccine, which would be a success, but I suppose the headline writer has achieved their purpose.
