This is a great day for science , they have worked like dogs to get a vaccine , cant underestimate the time and effort they have put in and how much co-operation that it took that wasnt there before

Just got the call from the hospital, i have some lung scarring but not enough to be concerned about , other tests confirm asthma and he is changing my inhalers , i will be monitored as part of long covid research , could have been worse i guess

A good day and historic for science

just maybe it is 9 months of hellish stress coming out. Worked his area off, far from perfect (but who would be) been slagged off but stuck at it and faced up to everything.

I salute his hard work and achievements.

incredible just 10 months ago we had the first cases of a virus that we knew nothing about.

yet now we have a vaccine and are actually vaccinating people against this horrible disease and hopefully early next year we will be back to normal.

brilliant achievement from this country .

V Day.

Scientists are using the Netherlands' largest football stadium to model how a cheering football crowd might spread fine droplets through the air which could spread the coronavirus

"We want to get a fundamental insight in the behaviour of aerosols in a stadium filled with football supporters. By air cleaning technologies you can drastically reduce concentrations and make stadiums safe in terms of aerosol transmission of the virus," he added.

Researchers also hope to get permission soon to experiment with a real crowd of 730 football fans, seated close together

More incredible are those moaning about Hancock being emotional on tv. Some are never happy

A World Health Organisation official has said only public health measures - not vaccines - can prevent a new surge of COVID-19 cases, as the first vaccines are administered across the UK.

"Vaccines are a great tool, they will be very helpful, but the effect of the vaccine in providing some kind of immune barrier is still far off," said Dr Margaret Harris in response to a question at a Geneva news briefing about whether the vaccines would come in time to prevent a third wave of cases in Europe.

"The things that must be done to prevent an increase, an uptick, a surge or whatever you want to call it are the public health measures," she added

Bollocks. He's been in charge of what is objectively amongst the very worst responses in the entire world. Where are we now? 70,000 odd dead and the second worst economic hit in the G20, behind only Argentina!

Credit on the vaccine front though, I do agree they've done that right to date, and I see no reason to believe the roll out won't go well.

I know imagine the stress he has been under

everyday

wake up at 5 check what’s going on. Deal with emails.

go on media get slagged and abuse all morning and told you are shit to your face by various journalists.

then does his job trying to save lives and the nhs and save us from Covid that no other country has a solution to.

he then gets home at probably 11pm at night totally fucked and his wife says why do you do it?

He gets a few hours sleep, rinse and repeat.

I mean he is not beyond criticism but I can’t think of a worse job in the uk.

Vaccine discovered in Germany by Turkish immigrants, developed by a US multinational and manufactured in Belgium.

I mean, I'm genuinely over the blue moon today, it's brilliant, but it's not a nationalist thing.

great brilliant, but correct me if I am wrong it’s the UK regulator who has approved it first and it is the UK that is rolling out the vaccine right now ahead of all other countries.

I think that is something to celebrate.

Those moaning about him would have thrown the towel in early if subjected to such prolonged pressure.

Nor saying everything they did was perfect, but if he is not allowed to be emotional on such a historic day, says more about those being critical of him
