Cornwall down to receive just 5% of what it used to get in EU funding.

Well, the leavers in Cornwall (and other EU-subsidised areas) surely didn't think the bus was wrong, did they? Surely they worked out that EU contributions couldn't go to them and the NHS?

"But Johnson said"? Surely they didn't believe him.

You said it makes them criminals. Just say you're against asylum seekers, even though fleeing wars we've caused or supplied arms to, or through our industry have made their land uninhabitable.
As predicted, there is little logic behind your views.

I am for all those asylum seekers who need help.

The Lord our God will give all those that thirst and hunger.

what is being denigrated is the state of our defence capabilities because the last 10 years have seen them effectively defunded and hollowed out by this govt - how can a "great maritime nation" have just 4 of those vessels bearing in mind they are not intended to just go up and down the channel but have far more distant capabilities?
He was getting angry about the lack of reconnaissance aircraft, not the river class vessels

You really don’t know what you’re talking about. Not only that, it’s a complete lie. I know more about the UK’s maritime reconnaissance capability than most people on here due to my job, and as for denigrating military capability maybe quote some posts from me where I’ve done that - By the way you won’t find any. Anything I’ve posted on that subject is fact. Now shut the fuck up with your lies and stick to posting random shit to prove you haven’t a clue like you did earlier about the Bundesbank.
It really isn't random shit. If you are interested, this explains it better than I can.

Going back to the months after the referendum there was a narrative attempted on here by the Remainers that Leavers are 'little Englanders' (which itself demonstrates a lack of understanding) and that Leavers were xenophobes who just wished 'ill' on the EU and hoped for it to collapse.

In fact I think that I have seen further daft posts like that only recently - I see it as just part of the pettiness of some Remainers that have always sought to characterise the Leavers as thick, racists etc.

I have many times sought to explain that this is not the case - I have explained that when the EU implosion/collapse does commence and picks up pace - then the UK will be badly affected whether we are still a member or have already left.

The main point though is that I and many others have had no doubt that the collapse will happen and that it is inevitable and, relatively, not long off. Therefore, the sooner that we are away and the cleaner that break is, then the better the chance that the impact to the UK will be less and the greater the chances of our recovery.

I want us away asap and I really really hope that the EU implosion is delayed - which will help us - but, as it will happen, it is essential that the EU are not allowed any influence/control over our economic and fiscal policies.

Anyway, I have chosen to make another post on this as I stumbled across a couple of videos that I thought gave a good explanation of just one of the number of reasons that the collapse of the EU is inevitable and is just being delayed.

The first clip is worth a listen - 19mins - but you need to have the time to concentrate on it - the 2nd half of it is when the penny starts to drop...………….

The 2nd link for me explains it much better - but it is 27mins long

You could almost feel sorry for the Germans:

These presentations were given in 2018 and it is worth considering that since then...……….

  • Macron has started to be much more bullish about seeking to secure/tie in Germany to obligations to provide ongoing/perpetual support.....
  • Germany has started to be less enamoured with what their role has developed into.....
  • Christine Largarde has taken on leadership of the ECB - FFS!!!!
And................
  • Covid-19 has occurred – and the EU has committed to........
Take the recent judgement by the German constitutional court and then consider how that will mean nothing once the ECJ asserts the supremacy that Germany gave them when it signed the Lisbon Treaty.... So the EU powerhouse Germany will start to become unable to control events.

https://www.ft.com/content/d93008c5-2b3c-4b2e-9499-5eabaaa959db

Add 2 and 2 and it turns out to equal - that Germany could/will be fucked along with the rest of the EU construct. As I say, you could almost feel sorry for them.

Of course if some Remainers have ignored my request not to follow the links - then I can predict their response.............

"But it does not matter – the UK is not in the Eurozone" – which will of course just further demonstrate their lack of understanding

I am doubting that it is worth bothering with the introduction of such inconvenient truths again - I say again because I posted that clip back in early May

From memory and not surprisingly @Saddleworth2 was the only Remainer to watch the video and assess the issue - I remember he came back with a good assessment that I will do a search for

You fail to address the conundrum. Deals. Good or bad? Discuss. So far it’s Vietnam - Yay! Very necessary. Europe - Boo! We can do better without one.

It takes years to complete trade deals that are good for both parties to the deal. Trade deals that are one sided or favour one party can be done quickly.

The trade deal between Australia and US was done in a couple of years. It led to reduced trade.
Discuss? When you've told us all about the minutiae of the 57 deals already done, and trashed every single nuance, as is your wont, because Britain is
just bound to have been screwed hasn't it? Then we could take a year or two arguing about each one.

It’s starting to feel like an episode of Blackadder...

Chris Parry, a former rear admiral and chair of the Marine Management Organisation, said ministers should act assertively. “I would seek to make an example and take a [EU fishing] boat or two into Harwich or Hastings. Once you had impounded them, the others would not be so keen to transgress without insurance.”

Bloody hell why can’t they do this with all those dinghies in the channel!

He does a bloody good job hiding it then. There was the most vitriolic article today about the EU. It was that unbalanced it could have been copy and pasted from this thread.
You will find that many papers are taking the same, or similar, approach,
as the EU demands are plainly unacceptable. Not the Guardian or Indy, obviously.

I don't remember anybody here voting for Merkel or anybody outside of Germany within the EU. Seems to have a lot to say though despite not being elected.

She was was a twat with Cameron when she ignored his requests.

You don’t remember his tour of Eu before referedum looking for some reforms where they basically told him to fuck off.
Which ironically is what we then voted to do.

We were offerened more concessions currently enjoyed by other countries. It was probably the best offer and the best outcome to UK citizens we've had available to us since all of this started.

People need to realise that a good trade deal with the EU, whether we're in or out of it, will mean abiding by some of their rules. We used to have a say in those rules, now we don't and we stand to lose a lot much more than them in this ridiculous game of brinkmanship.

It's almost as if the the main architects of Brexit wanted this to happen all along.

Ahhh the handbrake on immigration. He wasn't told to fuck off... he was told to apply the rules that were in place.

As we are not in the Schengen Zone ... the UK only subscribed to Freedom of Movement of Labour, which means that

1. We could've requested evidence of employment (a job offer in writing ) at the border.

2. Or evidence that the individual was self sufficient with income of £18,500 or more per annum.

3. If the individual became unemployed for a period of six (I think might be 3) months or more with no reasonable prospect of finding a job , they can be asked to return home.

Unfortunately the UK did not have the infrastructure at the border and having outsourced BorderForce to G4S in 2012 (after they had fucked up the security at the Olympics and still trousered all the cash) who didn't have the staff or the requirement in the contract to do the extra work.... so nothing happened. Well it did in a way T. May

a. put vans on the streets telling people to go home

b. In 2014 amended the laws on deportation ( UK Borders Act introduced by Labour in 2007) to make them tougher by including automatic deportation for anyone who has committed a criminal offence with a penalty of imprisonment of 12 months or more.

b. has its own problems because the change to the law was not widely advertised and therefore did not act as a deterrent but has been used extensively by Patel. Including deporting people to the West Indies who have no family there and left 40+ years ago at a very young age.

This has led to a clogging up the courts and as you have probably read recently , protests at airports to stop the deportations. A number of cases are being heard by the ECHR.

We really do have the capacity as a nation to allow c*ntish behaviour in our name by our elected representatives.
