General Videogame Thread

Role Playing Game, focus on character progression, storytelling, levelling up and in-game tasks such as crafting and building. Huge range within RPG genre though and things like action RPG or J(Japanese)RG are considered separate genres.

If you are unsure about how much you would use it, I would hold off a bit. There are only a handful of games on the newer machines at the moment and most aren't exclusive (even if they are optimised best on the new hardware). When easing of Covid restrictions allow, If you know a mate who has one and is happy to give you a test-drive or somewhere like Game's Belong Arcades (where you can rent time to play on consoles or PCs) when they open back up.

I'd recommend reading up about the features of both too. If you want something for casual entertainment at low cost you could pick up a an Xbox with the monthly game pass subscription or you might be more tempted by PS5's 1st party exclusive titles. Most of the big titles will be on both machines though.

Once you pick up a machine you can save on the cost of the games if you shop around on 2nd market or use online key codes from places like CDkeys.com for downloads instead of buying from official PS or Xbox stores (make sure it is UK or EU version though).
Do the CDkeys actually work? Have you tried them yourself?

Yes. Bought a key for FIFA 21 for Xbox one/Series consoles for £27.99 after I posted that. I have used them a few games, and never had a problem. Got Watchdogs Legion on there for £30 on and Control for about £20. TV passes for NOW TV always worked too. They don't have every game on there and the deals can be competitive but not ridiculously cheap. 20-30% would be a realistic saving. Make sure you get an edition that works in your region i.e. don't try to be clever and get a US region game key because it is £4 or £5 cheaper. Stay away from anything on the first page of google shopping that is too cheap and is described as shared access.

The new patch has made cyberpunk at least playable now. The released version for last gen consoles should be considered fraud, it was genuinely unplayable and a complete mess. The patch has improved it significantly but it’s still looking like a beta version of a late PS3 Bethesda game.

Bugs aside, of which there’s a a fuck tonne the game itself is sadly lacking. The RPG mechanics are quite dull and basic, a lot of minor incremental percentage increases and not enough unique stuff, the mods are completely pointless, adding 5 damage to a gun with a legendary mod that already does damage numbers into the hundreds is incredibly insignificant, it’s just not balanced right and with attribute points rather scarce it’s crazy there’s seemingly no reset option. The inventory management is really shoddy. The decision to make the guns and equipment drops like a looter shooter was a poor one, it makes everything you pick up pointless, there’s no desire to hunt something down or buy something because you’ll be replacing it soon enough.

Elsewhere, It seems you have to go out of your way to try and do missions stealthily when it’s far easier, quicker and more convenient to just go in all guns blazing, I took over half hour to do a standard little side mission using stealth and hacking getting in and out unseen, there was no incentive to do so and was more challenging than killing everyone, I then went directly to another side mission similar in scope went in loud with some flashbangs and a giant katana and cleared it out in about a minute. The driving is very substandard, the shooting mechanics are passable-decent but nothing to shout about.

The story telling is the key selling point, I’m currently enjoying the story but it’s nothing mind blowing and all the choices don’t really seem to have much impact.

That’s a lot of criticism I know but I’ll end by saying I’m still finding enjoyment in the game amongst the cascade of game breaking bugs it’s just nowhere near the game we expected

(1) HIGHEST DAMAGE GUN IS A PISTOL ??!!! Cyberpunk 2077 IS A Perfectly Balanced Game With No Exploits! - YouTube

It looks really cool and I'll pick it up when it's 30 quid and fixed. Nothing worse than hype in games.

Played around 20 hours of Cyberpunk now (ps4). Playable but still very glitchy. It’s an ok game but very underwhelmed so far. I can understand why a lot of people are angry. Falls under the same category as Watch Dogs and No Man’s Sky for me. Even with future updates I cant seeing it live up to anything near what was expected of it. Seems like they tried to pull off too much when they should have made it smaller scale and worked at polishing the main aspects of the game...wouldn’t have cared if it was just a small area of the city (no vehicles) and a much richer, detailed environment.

Add in Sea of Thieves to your list. A disgraceful release. Basically the same on release as the closed alpha a year before.

You can reset all your points over and over by purchasing a mod from someone (know idea who) for 100,000 credits.

I am just wandering about not really doing anything and have found that to be almost as enjoyable as the main/side missions. Some of the stories random NPC's come out with are bizarre.

Been playing the 1.04 patch of cyberpunk its certainly improved the bugs and glitches and also performance issues.

Playing on a Series X and was using performance mode however I've switched to graphics mode. Performace was 1080P targeting 60FPS however it was dipping to around 45-55FPS in busy areas so I've took the hit on FPS and I like it better.
Its a rock-solid 30FPS in native 4K and Night City(especially at night) looks stunning. It'll be interesting to see what CDPR do the free next gen update next year on consoles and if it'll be one of the first games to support Ray-Tracing on a Series X.

If your playing on Consoles to improve the graphics go to settings then graphics and turn off everything in there. The only thing I've left on is lens flare.

As I've mentioned in previous posts the game really does have balancing issues with the crafting and skill trees and also it doesn't do a great job of explaining the history of the Cyberpunk universe.

There are loads of history shards to pick up and read but how many people would do that?

Ive read a few Cyberpunk 2020 comics in the past so I had ok knowledge about the world companies like Arasaka Militech and Trauma Team plus the history of The Coperate Wars and Johnny Silverhand and his band Samurai.

And CDPR have absolutely knocked it out of the park with the history of Cyberpunk.

Mike Pondsmith(The creator of Cyberpunk 2020) said he based the world off Blade Runner and you can see the influences that film has on the table top game and Cyberpunk 2077.

I might be in the minority but I'm loving this game

I’m about 10 hours in now, on PC and can run it luckily on top end settings. I’m a complete Cyberpunk newbie and have passed what was the into part the game, from the nomad path.

I am getting really interested in the story now, but a couple of hilarious bugs have appeared, mainly enemy NPC’s glitching, but nothing game breaking.

Did you see the Easter egg with a rather well known game developer in one of the missions? It made me laugh.

Not seen that although I have see a magazine with Ciri (from the Witcher 3) on the cover which is cool. There was big rumours that is was going to be in Cyberpunk as in one of the quests in the Witcher 3 she mentions falling though dimensions and living in a world full of machines

So I took the plunge and bought cyberpunk. Im a Fallout/skyrim/red dead veteran, but Im at a complete loss at this game, no idea whos who or what is what. The menu systems and map is a jungle to me. Only just managed to find the quest list.
Does anybody have any basic starter tips before I give up.

Don't worry that side quests will come in like Skyrim on speed.

Go to your journal and scroll down this seemingly ever expanding list and have a read at something that takes your fancy.

Once you like one press the (square key on ps5 to toggle that mission active) and then only use the little mini map and yellow breadcrumbs to navigate.

Play the mission you have chosen and ignore the 30 new ones you will have stacked up by the time you have finished it.

I felt exact the same when starting it, but like the witcher and red dead. Keep on going and it gets better and better.

Anyone having problems with Cold War on PS5? It’s been crashing the console since launch day and I think it did some damage after a crash today. Decided to bin it off, which isn’t a bad thing as I think it’s shite. Just a shame I can’t level up my guns ready for Warzone. If anyone else is having issues with Cold War crashing your PS5, stop playing it. Numerous reports on Reddit and Twitter saying it’s bricking PS5’s and Series X.

Been on Cyberpunk since 9pm last night and just come off, so much better with the patch.

On PS5 under settings, graphics turn everything off and it further improves the quality.

Hardly scratched the surface considering I've just done a 9 hour shift, I've only just me Keanu Reeves. Can't wait to play some more when I finish work Wed morning.

Here's to further patches :)

Wow I've spent loads of time on Cold War since launch and not had a single crash, might stay away for a while now tho.

It seems to have a connection with putting the console into rest mode too.

I have no idea if true but I have read advice saying that at the moment do not put the ps5 into rest mode at any point, people report that it will enter rest mode but not exit. The only way to break the loop is to press the power button on the console, this causes an incorrect power off which in turn creates a "rebuilding database" action before returning to normal. This constant new rebuilding is alleged to be the main reasons for corrupt saves and bricking consoles
