It’s tricky one mate, it obviously doesn’t help but how much harm does it do to education ? My daughter got her degree so I’m a bit out of the equation
Yeah, it's a difficult balancing act. Simply shutting the schools isn't a viable option though. These kids have already missed too much of their education, and it'd be very difficult for parents who aren't working from home as someone else mentioned.

i know of some hospital staff who say they are going to refuse the vaccine. very much hoping they are in a tiny minority

Easy to say close schools and unis when you have no children in either and dont understand the consequences of such actions. Schhooling and uni work cant be done anywhere as well on line. No decisions in this pandemic are easy. Same as shutting some businesses and not others.
Most of the people I know who advocate shutting schools - plus those who are keen to scapegoat business sectors such as Hospitality - are either retired or have more-or-less guaranteed jobs in the public sector.

Had to go shopping in Bristol on Saturday and honestly you'd have had no idea there was any kind of pandemic going on. Virtually no-one wearing masks, zero social distancing going on and the place was absolutely heaving. It is little wonder we have a 2nd wave when you see people behaving like this. And surprise surprise, I see the infection rates climbing again and we've not even got to Christmas yet. God knows what it will be like by January. Carnage, I would imagine.

Anyone noticed all the hype around Ivermectin at the moment? Obviously need to be cautious with regards to these claims, but there's a shit tonne of hype around it as, apparently, something of a 'wonder drug' tackling covid.

I haven't heard of it tbf.
But it's said this needs to be a multi pronged attack, no real silver bullet (at least right now). If the most vulnerable are protected via the vaccine and the most seriously ill helped with drugs then we're much closer to society getting some kind of normal back. The Xmas thing is a worry...could do with capping. Jan/Feb are shit months anyway. Periods for locking down anyway as the excesses of Crimbo cash their cheques. Hunker down, go walk/run/boxset/books catch up and look forward to the literal and figurative green shoots of spring.

What do you mean?

What I mean is why can religious gatherings of numerous households go ahead whilst bubbles are still in place for the rest of the population?

The wishy washy rule doesn't stipulate that attendances in places of worship are limited so in effect if they get a full house there isn't a lot of social distancing going on, the added danger being when the services end they will all take it home to their families.

I don’t think Christians over Christmas are going to be the problem mate.

Everyone I know has been doing a virtual service for some time, even in July when attendance was totally allowed.

It’ll be piss heads having parties that we should worry.

Religious drinkers are going to be a double whammy, church in the morning and vodka orgies in the afternoon.

I can only speak for my experience at my church. We have to let them know in advance that we are coming, masks worn, sign in, every other pew blocked off, no singing, pew sheets thrown away at the end. Walk out single file, only allowed to sit with our own household. Bearing in mind the average age of our congregation is mid 70s, most are staying away. We had 19 yesterday in a huge church and six of them were us. It is a very depressing experience and I can’t imagine other churches are much different.

I am not knocking you going to church bud that's your business, i'm knocking the rules. The Archbishop of Canterbury is calling for full houses, IMO that's irresponsible considering how near we are to sorting this mess out.
