Boarding a boat is totally unessesery. illegal fishing should be dealt with by warning a boat, then cutting its nets if they persist. Create a government website indicating what boats had their nets cut and how they can apply for UK government payments to buy new fishing gear if they can prove they weren't fishing illegally.
So easy to do. Iceland won the cod war with 4 patrol boats and 2 converted trawlers by cutting nets. And that was done when the UK actually had a navy!

You are aware

they are not fishing illegally. They will have been sold quota shares by our existing UK fishermen under the guise of British Fisheries

that half the Trawlers out of Fleetwood are registered in the UK but owned by the Spanish.

that we granted rights under Royal Charter in 1666 for the Belgians to fish in UK waters in perpetuity.

That the UK Trawler fleet is monitored by a French Company , a contract that was outsourced by the Tories last summer (despite Brexit)

342,000 tons of fish were sold into the EU last year, 75% of all fish caught. We might gain 100% rights to fishing within our waters but we'll potentially lose out on the market in which we sell those fish.

Let's face it, no-one gives a toss about fishing and certainly not city Brexiteers like Boris. It's only a red line because it's suicidal for hard Brexiteers to lose on this issue. They'll burn this country to the ground before they 'cede' a load of saltwater for use by the French (despite it being extremely beneficial to do so).

I think that any rights the Belgians had in 1666 from Charles 2 would probably have been overruled by the Common fisheries policy by now as it has been determining what countries get what by type of fish for a good few years. Otherwise there would be some very rich Belgian blokes with very big trawlers going round taking whatever they wanted, telling the inspectors to do one. Whether we are members of the EU or not. Or is the hierarchy in your mind EU > 1666 Royal Charter > UK Government.

And as for the monitoring contract - a numpty writes a tender in a way that excluded the incumbent that has done the job for 20 years (British) and gives it to a company part owned by the French Government. If the Civil Service was instructed to do that by a minister I think we might have heard about it. Mad and incompetent, but its the civil servant that are at fault here, assuming the incumbent company was competent.

So?
They should never have been allowed to.
But the truth of it is actually, only one Dutch super trawler currently owns UK quota.
Super trawlers need to be banned in UK waters too. They are an environmental disaster. French fishermen agree

Iceland won the Cod War by threatening to pull out of NATO and throw the USA out of their Icelandic base.

The good fish are in the UK waters, that's why the EU ships are here.

EU super trawlers are currently working illegally in UK waters with their AIS systems illegally turned off.

When it just says "fishing", it means the AIS system is illegally turned off and the fishing trawler is being picked up only by satellite.

If you hover your mouse over the orange boats you find full details of GB ships, Faroes and Norwegians.

All the rest are EU, mostly Netherlands, operating illegally or they wouldn't have their AIS identification turned off.

Wouldn't a simple answer to the problem be, just ban fishing.

Fishing is sneaky , all those little tiddlers happily swimming around with their mates having a laugh and chasing after girl fish when along comes a huge net and kills them all so they can served up in batter in a chippy in Brinnington. What an ignoble end to a life of underwater gaiety.

as predicted HS2 North of Brum recommended to be down graded, then this will then be chopped piecemeal and the cross Pennine upgrade will become too expensive or the cash sacrificed for Cross Rail yet again all so people South of Brum can become part of the London commuter belt so the next pandemic will be able to be spread 20mins more quickly.

I agree.

Overfishing will lead to the radicalisation of other fish who witness their brothers and sisters being imprisoned. We could see future attacks on our country by SSF (Solidarity Salmon Front) which would damage our economy further.

Back on Topic.

Just seen Moggy on BBC parliament refuse to announce parliament will be sitting longer because he's got to go and shoot his Christmas dinner to celebrate a huge windfall in his portfolio coming up.

Wow I am shocked and never saw that coming. A rich man's rail link to Brum and fuck everyone else.

Someone from the Commission was on the radio saying they'd been misunderstood. It wasn't downgrading or abandoning the Eastern Leg - it was prioritising Northern Powerhouse Rail across the Pennines. I'll see if I can find the report, not just the media gloss.

Edit: I've had a quick look at the report, and I'm confused. It says it's better to improve journeys between regional centres rather than from the regions to London, but I can't find much about how HS2 will release capacity on existing lines. They think there should be a high speed line between Birmingham and the East Midlands (which HS2 does) and improved journey times from Sheffield to Leeds (which HS2 does, at least in one plan). But some of it is just word soup.

"The Integrated Rail Plan presents an opportunity for this government to break the cycle of committing to major rail schemes, underestimating the costs and ultimately having to reopen plans or find additional funding. Rail has a history of overspends. For example, the cost of electrification of the Great Western railway grew by £2.4 billion between 2013 and 2016. As set out in the Oakervee Review, the total costs of HS2 were estimated at £80.7-87.7 billion, against a budget equivalent to £62.4 billion. This suggests that government should begin by focussing on a core set of investments and leaving some decisions on possible enhancements or additional schemes for later." I read that as settling for piecemeal schemes, and the last sentence is a non-sequitur: how does focussing on one bunch of schemes and delaying others prevent cost overruns?

I'll now wait for Transport for the North and its Midlands equivalents to get stuck into the detail. Personally, I think HS2 both legs will go ahead. The red/blue wall now means that it affects too many marginal seats to be pulled.

JRM with his view on the Parliamentary process - they used to be so keen on it to. What's changed I wonder?

Avoiding a confrontation with the ERG (latterly the CRG).

Starmer set them up with the vote on the tier system.

He left it so Boris doesn't need them, signposted he'd do the same for the Brexit deal. It's a skewer and a half, because Boris really won't want them from here on. He has to move back to consensus politics for the vaccination programme, and back to the centre to placate Biden. That US deal won't sign itself.

Starmer's sitting there saying, 'Yeah, where do you think I've been heading? Best you forget about that lot mate. You know, like I got rid of Corbyn and co. I know they're your majority and all ....but you'd only ever want to do the right thing for Britain, wouldn't you?'

What? They were sold as part of our membership of the EU - of a trading bloc the one thing that Leave thinks was good about the old Common Market !! Furthermore is we are going to be a strong independent trading maritime nation this is precisely what will happen - its trade... free trade unless it offends nationalistic sensibilities over odd tiny parts of the economy - ha ha ha taking back control.
