Yeah, the dumb thing is though, that the team of officials who have been beavering away for the past few years to get these holdover deals over the line do deserve credit for doing so.

Yet such is the paucity of Brexit, a holdover deal based entirely on an existing EU deal with some extra bits added (Stilton cheese to Japan) is lorded as a triumph, even though it is clearly flagged the hard graft on a bespoke deal is yet to come. Not to mention we made concessions too.

The other disconnect is how these deals are hailed as good news and bring certainty for business (yes, they do), but a deal with the EU our biggest market is ‘meh, Australian terms, prosper mightily’, yet do they acknowledge this doublethink? Are they even capable of doing so?

The sheer stupidity of Brexit logic is a wonder to behold.
Lauded....

But then, unlike some, you don't have people to do your proofreading.

I think most people who voted brexit will be happy overall.

leaving the single market and the customs union. Controlling immigration, trade deals and laws amongst many changes. Short of no deal, it’s probably the hardest style brexit we could get.

I think covid has actually mitigated some of the effects of brexit on the economy.

Given their age, most of them probably don't think of themselves as European.
And?
The the President of the European Commission, no matter her imperial delusion, should realise...

If they’re happy with the country being poorer, doing less trade with our neighbours, more expensive groceries and less choice, less well paid jobs, no free healthcare in Europe, more travel restrictions and years of the constituent countries of the UK trying to separate then yes they will be delighted.

We have spent four years negotiating with Europe via the EU, so when it comes to trade, security, travel, residency rights etc it very much is Europe.

I know reality is hard, but you should really give it a try.

Oh dear, like a moth to a flame.

No idea why we are bothering with this cut and paste of an existing deal. Shouldn’t we have pushed for ‘Australian terms’ and ‘prospered mightily’?
What a desperately inane comment

I am sure that I remember when you offered more - has something occurred this last year that has irritated you?

A quite astonishing statement. The pandemic has hit the economy so hard, Brexit can’t do much more damage? And this is a ‘positive’?

Are you insane?

The Lyon game. Still pissed.

Not a fan of ‘Australian terms‘ for trade deals then? Govt are big fans apparently. Lots of ‘prospering’ to be done. Mightily even.

another victory for Britain - accepting what the EU wanted before summer - gonna be a ot of disappointed Leavers when they see the text

Imagine not considering the Norwegians, Icelandics, the Swiss and anyone else not in the EU as 'not Europeans' because they aren't members.

Being European isn't a mix of diverse heritages, cultures or ancestry to these people; it's merely a political status.

Nope - utter bollocks

We have spent 4 years negotiating with the EU - not Europe

And 3 of those were wasted due to the prominence of Remainers leading from the UK side

The last 12 months has been great to observe

Well for me - you seem to be utterly crestfallen to see the UK do well

By far and away the most balanced post I have seen for a long time

The situation now is only a question of how 'clean' the break with the EU is, with the range being - very very clean - really clean

Whatever - we Leavers are well past what we could have hoped for pre-2016 and certainly 2016 - 2019

A genuine Brexit is now pretty much secured and, whilst I might get a bit disappointed if there are a couple concessions on LPF procedures etc. I will just accept that the mission has been accomplished beyond whatever outcome I ever thought possible before January 2020

Take a bow Mr Frost

The Remainers have become increasingly bitter and petty in their denial - just more evidence of the reality of where we are.

Reality is hard sometimes - but some of them should grow a pair and try it

The brexit vote wasnt all about the economy. Having power and control of your own laws or borders are very powerful arguements.

being poorer, less well paid or losing your job already happened to millions of people over the last ten years. Short of being homeless don’t see how it can be much worse for most

having control over our own affairs - most people will be delighted

Fuck me - do you ever read detail?

Think it through - from the detail in what you have posted this is definitely a positive outcome for the UK team

As you are a UK citizen? if so and - unless you wish harm on the UK due to losing an argument on a football forum - you should be pleased

AS I said - an utterly myopic and inane claim from the bobster

Surely too early to have been drinking?

if its so good why didn't they agree in June and give everyone 6 months to prepare? We are 8 working days away from leaving with nothing. How does British business prepare in that time?

Yes. Often. The basic pattern is: UK concede on principle, then EU are happy to negotiate on detail. For further evidence see Withdrawal Agreement & NI protocols where there has been good progress on establishing an internal UK customs border.

Obviously having an internal customs border separating UK sovereign territory is a huge win for team UK. Honestly, I have tears of pride rolling down my cheeks. Proper choked.
