COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Hi from Wales.

A single tier one-size-fits-all approach hasn't been doing us much good.

It's crazy because we have 7-day case rates that vary by a factor of over 20x between widely separated local areas (e.g. between Anglesey [c.30/100K) vs Merthyr Tydfil [at times well over 700/100K]).

Anyone advocating a single tier approach needs to explain why the only GB(*) country that has used this approach since the summer has performed the worst.

(*) I say GB because I admit I don't know much about what's been happening in Northern Ireland
Whats the feeling within wales for the first minister? He hardly comes across as inspiring

Seems harsh on Tameside and Stockport to be held back in Tier 3.
It does. Im in the Heatons, Stockport and am torn on what I want. Tier 2 seems like such a risk. But then I see all the small independent bars and restaurants, some of who have barely been open since March and I feel so sad for them. A few obviously expected to open after November lockdown and have decorations and Xmas trees up. Heartbreaking.

This is my view too.

On the one hand lives will be saved and we’ll likely be in a better position in January but I know someone who owns pubs and someone who runs one and they’re being absolutely shafted.

It’s a woeful situation and only emphasises more why people should take the vaccine as early as possible.

Is there any chance that tier 3 could be changed to allow fans in grounds similar to tier 2?

The risk of 2k fans spread around the bottom tier of the east stand with loads of controls in place seems negligible compared to 10,000 shoppers mingling freely on Market Street

The rate has gone up in London but I wonder if that's related to London taking longer to hit the 2nd wave or actually a result from businesses being back open.

2 have shut down near me. I suppose an economy can recover, deaths from corona can't. It is still sad to see.

If it’s your families life work to own and run pubs, as some have, it’s very difficult to justify it to them.

A fella I know, who runs his own company in hospitality has been driven to despair and it’s driven him to the opinion that we should have continued as normal with some restrictions but hospitality continuing

Sounds selfish but his life work is going up in smoke and he nearly lost his house.

I am of your opinion, a life is more precious than a house but I do feel very sorry for him.
