Scotland 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY: Deaths/Cases (positive %)/Patients/Ventilators

51d - 1225c (4.7% pos) - 1125p - 90v

51d - 958c (4.3% pos) - 982p - 69v

50d - 933c (4.7% pos) - 989p - 52v

30d - 858c (4.4% pos) - 1012p - 50v TODAY

Overall these are good numbers and the fall in deaths very encouraging and patients have started to fall back after recent rises and ventilator numbers stabilise again.

I cant see how the holiday rules make any sense for tier three areas , you are breaking the rules shirley , it is such a cluster fuck of mixed messages , trying to stay popular
Don’t call me Shirley :-)

People are crossing tiers anyway. It won’t matter a bit if we do it by borough cause it’s happening anway.

Im right on the edge of Cheshire/GM and the amount of tier crossing is extreme.

Yep,said it last week,so many are pouring into Cheshire on the piss.

I really feel for the businesses that are suffering due to the tier 3 restrictions but i would rather stay at this level until the new year and see where we stand then.

To be honest I am more concerned about opening up for 5 days over xmas.

For those wondering what the positive % means - it means the % of people from all those tested who had Covid. So 4.4% means 95.6% of those tested were negative.

It matters as if you only do 1000 tests and find 200 cases (positive 20 %) that is much worse than finding the same number from 10,000 tests (positive 2%). The difference in positivity number reveals that instantly.

Scotland have understood this and given the data from the start.

Amazingly England started to do so.

Yesterday.

I do get why people are angry over this decision but it is the safest for the next week or two before things change - as they will. You might see the sense come January.

And imo the Premier League need telling to stop fans allowed in just some grounds. It is creating an obvious unfairness and makes this season even more of a meaningless money making exercise than it already mostly is.

Footballers are not playing as they used to because they are human beings not robots and - hello - there is a global pandemic on and they are putting their families at risk meeting many people day after day all over the country and the world.

This is the reason we are having such a strange season.

But it is very simple that these tiers give an edge to those able to have fans and there ought to be a vote that it is all or none not just the chosen few.

Totally agree

That is a fair point but you could also apply the same argument to the surrounding areas of Wilmslow currently stuck in tier 3. I know people who have been travelling to Wilmslow, Poynton, Alderley etc from Manchester for meals.
You mean Wilmslow in tier 2. I am waiting to see over the next couple of weeks how that has affected the area. I know there will always be borders but whilst I want to go to a restaurant I do think it the right decision. It's obvious people are doing what they want at the moment and this will impact the rate of infection moving forward regardless of the tier system. Hopefully by the time we get to mid - late January the rate will be stable and low enough for us to into tier 2

Wancock telling us "not to blow it now" as if he has been competent and had everything under control.

Tosser.
Think we've got to the back patting stage with some these now. Talking about NHS track and trace finding 90 odd % of contacts. Unfortunately 6 months too late. That's part of problem with the chamber being empty because at times there would be howls of derision

I run a pub right on the boundary so I’m tier 2. I can’t explain the amount of people crossing over from bramhall etc. Even further afield actually.
Yep,half a dozen of my daft mates were sending pictures of themselves on the piss in a Warrington pub last week,no meals....not required apparently.

Train stations were full of large groups carrying crates of beer on their way to Chester and Liverpool......so whats the fucking point of a Tier system?

It is what I have been saying in here endlessly since August when we saw it happen to Wigan. It is why Cheshire East is in trouble right now.

Tiers are like sieves that leak the virus to less restricted areas around them.

Unfortunately only nationwide rules are effective. And we will almost certainly be in them by early January if the next 2 weeks go as most fear.

Perhaps common sense will win out. Perhaps. But Jan/Feb are the critical months as with luck they are the last ones when the vaccine is starting to come on stream and the virus has chance to run amok and overwhelm an already stretched NHS every year at that time

But they are by far the most dangerous 8 weeks of the pandemic by happenstance of timing.

This is a winter peak virus and w were coming out of that in wave 1 and building up to it in wave 2. Any wave 3 will be in the middle of it and that is the problem.
I am waiting for news about the Oxford vaccine. Nothing else really matters.

At the moment we don't have the supply to do much but if the Oxford vaccine gets approved we could see a mammoth war effort. There is tremendous will and resolve to get out of this and save ourselves from this prolonged wearisome farce. How ridiculous to walk around the streets and shops with masks! I hate it. I want to get back to the football. I want to do the ordinary things.

I am excited because I feel this is near. When the Oxford vaccine gets the nod as I feel it will, we need everyone to play their part.

I am glad the world is full of selfless people like you who to disseminate good useful information without prejudice, Well done on using your determination, communication and research skills to the full. You made a difference and that is all we can do.

I agree the biggest Christmas present anyone here can get will be go ahead for Oxford.

That could be the difference between reasonable normality come Easter or not.

It will change everything assuming it is safe and effective as it is much easier to give and millions of doses are ready to go right away. And UK will get many of them unlike the other vaccines where we are in quite a lengthy queue.
