Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

He`s special. That combination of speed and pure strength, but also being pretty good with the ball is quite rare. Could be our own Haaland if Pep plays his cards right
He looks to have a real chance.

The thing that really gives me optimism is that when he’s stepped up to senior level in the League Cup and the Pizza Trophy he’s still done well and scored goals. At the junior level he looks stronger and faster but that won’t be the case as you step up so you need more. He looks to have that in his game.

As I said if he could tidy up his link play to just ensure we keep the ball and can get up the pitch it’ll be a major step forward.

He was absolutely bullying the Bournemouth defenders when he played for the first team. His physicality is in my opinion his biggest strength, he wouldn’t look out of place in the PL physically. As you say he has to work on his link play, but he has shown lots of times that his dribbling, passing and first touch is actually great, right now it’s more a matter of inconsistency. He’s only 17 so loads of time to improve

Pitiful is a very harsh.
It was......disappointing would have been a better description.
His link play needs a fair bit of work as he gives it away too often. It’s not like he doesn’t have the ability because he does have a good touch, it’s just his consistency that’s lacking. I’d like to see him be told to really simplify things outside the box, rather than trying too much or trying to be too cute. These rough edges are only to be expected really given his age.

I’d have still liked to have seen him on the first team bench rather than a third centre back because he is strong, quick and can finish. The last bit is not something that’s easily learned.

He should definitely be getting in the side ahead of Garcia. We need to start introducing these kids (who want to be here)

As I said above he has been completely forgotten, next time we will see him in FA Cup vs Birmingham, but even that may be optimistic. and after that his next game will be in 2021 summer in some pre season game.

Hope I am wrong.

He's not ready for regular PL football, but I'd bet every penny I have that if he'd have started the games against Fulham, Burnley and tonight he'd have got at least one shot on target.

I hope Delap gets some more game time soon. I doubt he could do any worse. It seems like every game, our shots to goals stats are abhorrent.

I agree, physically he can handle it,but he's till very inconsistent and mentally he is still a bit immature.

It wouldnt do any harm to have him on the bench occasionally though, bring him on when the situation suits.

In the two games he's played he's looked more than good enough. Having youngsters in the side tends to help morale. We're struggling for goals, and he knows where the goal is. What's the harm in having him on the bench and giving him, Doyle and Palmer the odd 15 mins here and there FFS?

Should've started. Southampton have such a physical CB partnership and we had Ferran and KDB jumping in the air against them and trying to wrestle the ball from them.

"I know we just won, but I think it would have been better if we gave a child his first start in this absolutely must win game against a team trying to go 2nd in the table instead"

Perhaps a place on the bench ahead of Nmecha, but in no way shape or form should he be starting a must win game.

There would be no situation i can think of where you bring on Delap instead of Aguero unless its just to give a kid a run out when you're 3-0 up, which was never happening in this game.

So there is a situation...that was exactly the one i was hinting at.

If it's a must win game, we must also score goals. Make no mistake about it, that was a game that could've went either way. Playing KDB as pretty much a ST out of possession has led us to scoring half the goals we have in the previous year. I'm not pushing for Delap to be our main striker but in a game where we have no focal point and our STs had no ability to hold up the ball or give their CBs any worries, it was a clear weakness.

It wasnt,so why have Nmecha there?
I think we were short on numbers with Jesus, Laporte and Garcia not fit.

So 1 kid spot was available and Nmecha plays a position we didn't really have on the bench if Pep sees Foden as a winger first and foremost.

Also he might just have been the kid that was the best in training this week and earned himself a place.
