Not sure, she said she’s just got a job to start after New Year and it’s going to be mass vaccination at the stadium.

Reading between the lines it sounds like it’s a completely new operation and a big one at that.

Her job is to just remove the used vaccination kits and replace them x amount of times per day for one administer, who’s qualified.

The natural R0 of previous strains averages is 3.1 - they really don't know because of 30% of folks being asymptomatic (they give a range between 2.2 to 5).
If the new strain is 70% more infectious then you simply multiply 3.1 * 170% and that gives you am average natural mean R0 of 5.27.

I lived in London for 5 years, the first couple of years I lived on my own. Really not sure what I would have done when faced with the current situation as a young singleton in his 20s. Maybe tempted to get on the next pendelino to Piccadilly to stay with family?

I lived with mates for the following 3 years and would have stayed where I was. No doubt we'd enjoy Xmas day together and get pissed.

Media desperate to divide us. Don't give in to it. The government fucked up but moving London to Tier 2 and being too late to react.

In addition, trains to Manchester are always busy at this time of the year.

I think we should be grateful to the UK scientists for identifying the changes.

We now have to hope that the accumulated changes are not sufficient to significantly reduce the effectiveness of the vaccines. It's possible they could have an effect as anything which changes the 3D structure will affect the binding potential of antibodies. This is what they call antigenic drift.

The irony of this is that as we increase the amount of immunity in the host population the virus is going to become more efficient at changing and we will force the virus to adapt. Human's become Gods although it doesn't feel like it now does it.

It's a basic calculation.
Since March they have saying that without restrictions 1 person will infect 3 others. Well if that is 70% higher, it's now 5. It not rocket science let alone rocket engineering.

Short version: not enough evidence to say.



I'd be very cautious about putting any kind of figure on this. The virus has previously (Merseyside for example) shown it's quite capable of growing at these rates in its other forms. Personally I'm sceptical how significant it really is, but that's purely because no evidence has yet been presented, and it's a very convenient crutch for govt. We'll see. It makes zero difference to what we should do (suppress to low levels, track trace isolate to keep it there and vaccinate asap)

I'm relieved to say my 13-year-old lad has made an impressive recovery during the last 48 hours.

He's a very fit kid but he has been so tired.

Temp down to 36.5 and he's polished off two double cheeseburgers and chips, followed by trifle and half the box of Cadbury's Heroes brought to the doorstep by neighbours for him and the missus.

So relieved and checked on him about five times during the night, been sleeping on the floor in my office, so been awake most of the night anyway.

Kids are amazing aren't they, so strong.

Wife also felt good enough to have a shower and eat three meals today, but she has lost her taste and smell.

Just wanted to share a positive story, pardon the pun!

Me and daughter still not showing any symptoms and temps of 36.1 each.

They first had symptoms Monday night, is there a time where the infection threat is lessened or I should start to exhibit any of my own?

I wonder if the vaccination numbers will slow down over Xmas with people being off work. Last I read we were upto 300,000?

Every day more vaccinations brings this closer to being over. I hope we can get up to a million a week by the end of January. That’s what we have to be aiming for.

Yeah, I can’t see the number of vaccinations increasing until after the Christmas break. A million a week by the end of Jan will be fantastic if we can achieve that

Where was this mate? Only reason I’m asking is that I heard weeks ago of exactly the same thing happening up here. Bloke who I work with said one of his neighbours - elderly with breathing issues - tends to have a bit of a turn each winter that requires hospital admittance. Anyway, it happened the other week and they stuck him on a Covid ward without even testing him for it. He then caught Covid and passed away. His wife got a phone call a couple of days later from a doctor at the hospital apologising for what they’d done.
