Areas going into Tier 3 are:

  • Bristol
  • Gloucestershire
  • Somerset
  • Swindon
  • Isle of Wight
  • The New Forest
  • Northamptonshire
  • Cheshire
  • Warrington
And places to be moved into Tier 2 are:

  • Cornwall
  • Herefordshire
But Merseyside stays at Tier 2 ?

Suggests everyone takes a step back and calm down , viruses always mutate, the media thrive on panicking people, we’ve got numerous vaccines on the way , everyone knew that winter was going to be grim . Stay safe , respect the restrictions brought in and come spring things will be much much better.
The media are not doing it , just reporting

We're ten months into this thing and know that that statement would only matter if they were only affecting themselves. They're not. We also know most people actually don't have something resembling a functioning, empathetic brain in their head so they will willingly harm themselves and likely others too if we let them. So take that choice away from them for their own sake and everyone else's ffs.
I agree entirely,i was just reiterating the point regarding apportioning of blame.Society has allowed these creatures to behave like this,it was always going to end up biting us on the arse.

I thought my coughing and sore throat, bad as it is/was, would be the end of it.

I can't quite explain what happened to me when I went to bed last night, it was like some bizarre out-of-body-experience.

I was asleep for about an hour when I jumped awake with a horrible metallic taste in my mouth?

I couldn't believe it, soaked head-to-toe in ice-cold sweat, like I'd been for a cold shower in my T-shirt.

I'd no temperature, didn't feel hot, whatsoever, but spent the rest of the night with the shivers.

I'm in front of my desk today, never really have sick days, but there is little snap in my legs.

I consider myself pretty fit, but it just goes to show how it can grab a hold quickly even after four days in.

I'm even more fully appreciative now how easy it is to kill older people or those who have underlying health conditions.

My wife is still tired but my 13-year-old boy is pretty much back on form after nine days in for their own positive results.

We are all out of a 16-day isolation on New Year's Eve. There is hopefully some symbolism I want to take from that...

Stay safe my fellow Blue Mooners. I've made more friends on this board during the last ten months, than I have in ten years in my 'normal' day-to-day life.

They say you find out who your true friends are when the chips are down, I've since discovered all these people I've worked alongside down the years are only there if you can remain useful to them.

Have a wonderful Christmas, best you can, knowing I will see many of you for the first time in hopefully a brighter 2021.

x
You give us a lot of fun on here mate. The Messi thread a particular favourite this year. I wish you and your family all the very best for Christmas and hope you all shake the virus off double quick. Then you can tell us all about Lionels arrival in January ;-)

In hindsight, Boris's penalty-shoot out metaphor was a clear warning of the possibility of this whole thing turning into a Matchday Thread meltdown.

Hancock:

“But we also know that Tier 3 is not enough to control the new variant. This is not our hypothesis, it is a fact and we have seen it on the ground.

So why the fuck are you leaving half the country in tier 2/3, knowing that the virus will continue to spread as a result, you fucking idiot? 700 people a day are dying already! How many more die before you follow your own logic??

This is doing my nut. How can he possibly justify this?

It’s actually relatively simple. Back in October they introduced a tier system which is local restrictions to allow the rest of us to go about our lives as normal as possible. Areas in the North, particularly Liverpool, accepted these tiers and felt they would later be rewarded for going into lockdown. Plunging Liverpool back into tier 4 now will cause even more division and revolt.

For what it’s worth, I think they were right to try pursue a lockdown at regional level as many were making the argument about the logic in shutting down London when cases/hospitalisations were down in the capital.

However, the situation is now much different to before. I do think come Boxing Day once the North has had its “reward” for the early lockdown, we’ll revert back to a national lockdown if deaths continue to climb.

I'm completely depressed with the news. The new UK strain bad enough, now an even worse South African one over here. Give it a month until they tell us everything's gone to shit and by the way the vaccines won't work either. But I'm sure Johnson will promise us all we'll be in a great position by October.

Feeling pressurised by mrs family to go Xmas dinner in her parents house with her nan and grandad there and others.
Im calmly saying no but seems they just do not get it at all.
My son in same predicament with his in laws. He has persuaded them to eat outdoors but I can’t see that lasting. He knows what I think but is under a lot of pressure. It’s a tough one and I hope you can resolve it. Whatever you choose have a happy Christmas mate and Stay safe.

Ha that's my fear too. Keep expecting to hear that the Oxford vaccine will either not be approved or not effective against the new strains. 2020 has taught me to expect the worse. Murphy's law innit.

We went through a short period where cases were coming down and vaccines were being produced and things looked genuinely bright for a little bit. Now it's just day after day of bleak, horrible news. The case numbers are one thing, tragic for everyone involved, but any optimism about this being under control any time soon is almost gone with this mutation stuff. Grim!

Both eventualities would be low down on my list of concerns.

I suspect Hancock's referral to the review being underway now probably means extra data has now been submitted.

I predict approval Tuesday, and with the low dose mesning we have 8 million doses immediately. Shoot me if I'm wrong.

The question is whether our govt has the guts to take the hard decisions to hold the thing at bay ahead of vaccination. Today's press conference, and the numbers in a week's time are what concerns me.
