Bluemoon Angling Thread

I'm on Lymn dam today pike fishing. No runs yet but I'll give it another hour. I'm getting to be quite a blanking expert at this malarkey: )
Any pike round here are coming out covered in leeches - lazy cunts obviously not moving very far so unless you are in the right spot. I like what you said about 'blanking gear' - I've got a groundbait bowl and some 8lb maxima that I swear have mysterious fish repellent properties.

Happy new year all , cant be any worse can it. New Years Resolution is to buy a centrepin and learn to trot. Any recommendations welcome.

I seem to remember DD recommended an Okuma. I've got a J W Young & Sons Y2000 Heritage but it was a gift from the lads I fish with on my 60th and is really too good to use.

These days I'm more inclined to trot with an Abu 506 closed face reel which sort of gives the best of both worlds.

The okuma is great. For a true entry level that works and doesn't break the bank have a look at the TF gear classic. About 50 quid on eBay, nowhere near the okuma or top end stuff, but if like me you only use it a couple of times a year it's fine with some 5lb float fishing line on.

well im back, from walking round lymm dam, near the dam wall it was frozen, but at the far end was fishable, four fishing in total, me, my mate a bloke who was there for 5 mins and some bloke from swinton, it was nippy, me and my mate had fuck all , the bloke from swinton had nothing either, i pretty much knew i wouldnt get anything, i just wanted to get out and try out my shallow divers, see how they looked, aren't treble hooks a pain in the arse, 3x i had to tie up because the trebles got all twitted in my line, not to mention stuck in my fingers and clothes and pretty much anything they come into contact with haha, im must of looked like a right plonker, anyway, the lures look the business ,so they will do the business in spring when fish actually chase stuff.

a good 2 hour walk, bright sunny day with jack frost nipping at my nose :)

as soon as i got there i was getting my kit together, and "wisely" i put my smoking paraphernalia on the dam wall, off slid lost my baccy pouch haha,

I've been out on Dowry reservoir near M62 Saddleworth junction today for a spot of pike fishing. When I got there a third of it was iced over. I lost 2 treble hook traces plumbing the depth and another near the side. Fortunately @Didsbury Dave turned up and kindly gave me a couple of rigs, thanks pal.

Only managed to put one rod out with a Joey mackerel on, was too cold to rig another rod up. Snow was coming down sideways and I managed till 3:30 before I packed up, and that's the third blank on the trot now!

I'm determined to catch a good pike this winter and by good I'll willingly accept a 10lb fish.

I have just organised a 24 hour next weekend on a local runswater , not bothered one bit if i catch. I'm just looking forward to getting in that bedchair and making a brew in differant surroundings other than my house.

love the over nighters , if youve got all the gear can be really comfortable, as for alarms going off in the middle of a freezing cold night, fuck that, bring the rods in :)

It was bleak up there today mate. Fair play to you for sticking it out. We will get you a pike this winter.

Fuck me gents, I look at that and realise I'm as much of a fair weather fisherman as I am a plastic city fan nowadays. You were obviously going to catch f-all, but kudos for being arsed to give it a go.
