COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Don’t think its a big issue, based on zero knowledge so ready to be corrected, think it was 90 % effective with one dose. As I understand Pfizer saying it’s untested after a 3 week interval, not saying it doesn’t work though and no reason to think immunity would suddenly stop after 3 weeks.

Yes, that's how I see Pfizer's position.

Any immunity gained definitely doesn't just turn off.

So the total deaths without the all settings from England - yet to be added - is today 673. The highest yet.

Both the bbc and guardian are suggesting that those due a second dose next week are being contacted to cancel. My father in law is due a second dose on Tuesday. He’s 87. He will be devastated if he has to wait another 9 weeks.

One of my uncles is due his second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. I really hope he and all the others get it.

I thought they were just talking about the AZ vaccine with regard to delaying the 2nd dose. Not the Phizer one as well.
Not according to the bbc.

Plans to delay giving out the second dose of the coronavirus vaccine have been criticised by GP leaders - who say the move will cause huge problems for thousands of partially-vaccinated elderly and vulnerable people.

On Wednesday the government announced it had changed its vaccination strategy, saying it would now prioritise giving out the first doses of the vaccines.

It said second doses of both the Oxford-AstraZeneca and the Pfizer/BioNTech jab would then be given up to 12 weeks after the first dose. The initial plan for the Pfizer vacine was two jabs within 21 days,

GPs have warned the change will affect tens of thousands of elderly and vulnerable patients who were due to get their second dose of the Pfizer jab in the coming days and weeks.

The head of the British Medical Association's GP committee said it was "grossly unfair" to delay the second jabs for high-risk patients and the policy was causing huge logistical problems.

Pfizer told the Guardian that there was no data to demonstrate that protection after the initial dose was sustained after 21 days.

Cases for the three nations without England - 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY

3322 v (12, 982 huge several day Wales data catch up so really was about 4300) v 4316 v 6382 TODAY!

The highest ever from the three nations when all from a single day not two days as some have been recently.

Posted solely for estimated sizes of the groups to be prioritised.

Have there been any signs that the govt have accepted/rejected the recommendation that all teachers are prioritised too?
It's the JCVI who decide priority

I just lost my shit in tesco , nearlly literally as i have a stomach bug but that is a different story

Up to 27 Dec there were 786,000 vaccinated in England and 524, 439 of them were over 80.

Scotland are at 92, 188, Northern Ireland at 33, 663 (this was 29 Dec) and Wales 22, 595 - though that was 20 December so it will be quite a few more now.

The total without the last 10 days Welsh data is 934, 466 and this is also without last 3 days for England and Scotland

So we must be over a million by now.

Wales just updated to 27 Dec as 35, 335 - so the above is now 947, 206.

My kids have been home educated and never been to school so I cannot speak with any authority on schools. However, I fully appreciate that some parents need to have their children in school so they can both work. Other families are fortunate enough to only need one parent to work, so schools being closed is not such an issue to them. Some families can support their kids with online work whereas others cannot.

It has seemed to me all along that the issue has been that by continuing with the 'academic' year, there is a danger that some kids are going to get left behind when schools are closed. When schools are open, some kids could stay at home with a non-working parent, but can't because they will get left behind (and the parents fined). Additionally, some kids suffer with the lack of social contact where others don't.

Maybe they should have abandoned any academic work for 12 months, and the teachers can do what they want, and just make school days fun. Then those kids who need to be there for 'social' reasons can go to school, but those who want to stay at home can. This would not only reduce the numbers in schools, but would reduce pressure on teachers, parents and kids.

True, but both they and other military personnel could be deployed to help/free other hospital staff (ambulance/paramedics) and alleviate the burden. However, in the UK, a paralyzing fear seems to persist that deploying the military in a civilian setting, in this case the NHS, is tantamount to admitting that the system has broken.

The military have been and do appear ready to help, so it's simply a case of making the request and giving the order.

Much of that will be happening already mate because a lot of army medics are employed by NHS Trusts.

and you get poster after poster blaming the GOV or individuals.
The worst posters are those that say "we should have", "it was obvious"
Every thing is easy after the event, I should have bet 0-0 in the Livarpool match tonight, it is so easy after.
You only have to go back to the start of this thread , masses of us were screaming at things being done, no hindsight required , it has been botch from day one , some you can understand but not locking down in time and stopping testing were inexcusable , we had time advantage and were told what to do by WHO and italy but no we literally went off on our own path , heads need to seriously roll
