They changed the vaccine priority yesterday so that all frontline health and social care workers go into Phase 1 and can get vaccinated which might slightly slow vaccination of the older groups.
 
The number of vaccinations in England has markedly slowed in past week apparently. Christmas was a factor. But there is uncertainty if the delay to the second dose is entirely due to the change in tactic and not that numbers of available vaccine were lower than expected. Some are claiming we got down to less than one days worth available at one point. So there is a suspicion afoot that the change in plan had something to do with not having to reduce numbers new people vaccinated per day as cases and deaths soar. Either way there are staff reporting calling patients - some elderly and concerned telling them their second dose is delayed to an unnamed date.

If true this may well yet be a big story brewing.

Though it may well not be true, of course.
 
Noddy question incoming....(sometimes it's the easiest ones that get overlooked )

1. Will those who have had it and recovered, need to receive a vaccine?

2. If everyone is immune via contacting covid and/or the vaccine, does the virus die?


(My unsaid implications are the chances of covid to mutate into another strain in the future in the non vaccinated populous and also the same point but abroad, and future restrictions on travel due to covid uncertainty. I'm perhaps getting a little ahead of myself. I really don't foresee the world ever going back to how it was, and my main past-time, travel, is likely going to look very very different)

I thought the whole point was to get more people to get the first one quicker. It hasn't changed from 1million/week so why it's gone back 5 months is curious. Probably more to do with Teachers et all going up the priority list but the site doesn't mention that and still has the same 9 group list on there. I'm in group 8.

All it shows me is that they need to up the numbers per day/week a LOT.

There are thousands of businesses and people doing fuck all, who could easily be trained/used to help. I can't believe it will be a supply issue. Ice Cream Vans would be ideal!

Anyway, things will become more clear on the numbers over the next few weeks I suppose. But the thought of still being in this situation beyond the summer is pretty fucking depressing right now. I wish I had confidence in the authorities to sort it out, but I just don't.

I need a beer.

When schools are closed, it is often the case that households cannot mix and they cannot go anywhere too. Of course, plenty are suffering.

I can only go off the kids I see and know, not that many, I know some will suffer but for the good of getting this virus under control am extended Xmas break and a shorter summer one would help, especially with older students who should be disciplined enough to study on line.
 
Just advance notice that data will be low tomorrow as Wales and N Ireland not publishing any and Scotland not givig any death numbers now until 5 January.

Yes, @55yr old teenager has also made that very point, but I was talking more broadly and calling for its systematic involvement. More UK civilians have now died from Covid than died during the Second World War, yet there remains a reluctance to accept that the country is in a perilous state and deploy its full resources.

I guess some of the frontline NHS staff will be vaccinated before Monday (where possible) to limit delays to the public.

If it’s just as a volunteer it looks from the NHS website that there’s nothing doing at present. There’s a separate section for retired clinicians.

I am interested in volunteering
St John Ambulance is currently working through the charity’s existing networks to sign up vaccination volunteers – they are not opening recruitment to members of the public more widely at this stage.
