We’re behaving as if it’s April again. If they’re not going to enforce a lockdown then those of us calling for one have to practice what we preach.

We’ve already had the virus so it’s not for our benefit but people really need to start thinking of the workers on these wards now, as well as the thousands dying.

Enough is enough with the selfishness.
I agree mate. I’ve got shopping in for the week and I go for a mate’s weekly shopping, who has mobility problems. I do other volunteering that I might put on hold as it’s non essential.

I will go out for a walk when the black ice clears but apart from that, that’s pretty much my regime for the next 2 months. I’m doing training, reading and watching films in the house. Not a great existence but better than adding to the overflowing hospital wards.

As much as I agree with you, I don't think it's realistic. Me and you are thinking of the workers on the wards, so are the majority of people, but there's a significant minority who simply do not care and do not want to care. No amount of telling will do, the country or more appropriately the world is full of ignorant, arrogant dick heads.

All we can do is our bit mate.

I haven’t been absolutely squeaky clean with the rules for parts of 2020 but it’s now at such a breaking point I’m going to go beyond what the government have restricted.

Tier 5 by Friday I reckon.
Masks on outside anywhere.
All schools shut.
1 hour exercise a day walking distance from home only.
No option about working from home. If you can, you do.
Redefining of what retail can open.
Golf clubs shut.

There's a line in your post that's a worry, I've been thinking about it quite a bit the last few days.

The time is coming when there'll be another sub-group out there (not you ban) who will be 'fuck it' already had it, why should I care etc.

I'd suggest they'll be more dangerous than the hoax idiots.

Can people who've already had it still spread it then? I thought the whole herd immunity idea was based in people not being able to catch it twice.

Eventually they'll most likely be able to. I think it's kinda accepted that reinfection will be possible not immediately, but several months down the line in some cases, and longer for others. Some scientists reckon the secondary infection is likely to be less severe though for those reinfected.

You've entirely misread the twitter thread. It's a comparison with sept, not a call for a short circuit breaker.

The point being made is that SAGE called for a circuit breaker in Sept, yet now, when things are far, far worse and the govt is not even doing as much as was recommended back then.

Now, it's clear. Things are close to catastrophically bad. We need to stop everything possible. Immediately. Or the virus will outrun any feasible vaccination programme.
It can win a sprint but unless it evolves it cannot win a marathon. I sense you are flagging.

It will be a good news day tomorrow. Oxford vaccine day. We waited a long time for this.

I agree. It will get worse in the short-term before it gets better but there is genuine cause for optimism with the vaccine rollout. It'll be grim for the next few weeks though

I mean, we’re behaving as if we’re in full lockdown, beyond the restrictions of tier4.

I am staying in but for walking once a day and going to the shop for weekly food, that’s it.

so the 29th Dec, as flagged on here, is currently sitting on 79.8k cases for the UK. At the moment that is all likely to change given the dashboard is looking a little wonky in terms of dates at the moment but you cant see it going down!

that wont exclusively be christmas get togethers, of course there'll be the 'normal' transmission vectors that have been occuring all year, of a more transmissible variant, plus the delay of people getting ill in the run up to xmas and showing symptoms in and around xmas and not getting to a test centre etc, so the whole holiday period is a bit of a muddle, but the spike around 29th to 31st will be quite large and clearly Christmas day will have contributed some.

Spot on!

Even if we’d had a top notch govt doing the right things throughout, numbers would still be worse than they could have been if people had not been following the rules like they haven’t been doing throughout.

Greater Manchester hospitals have been telling us that they’ve been struggling with capacity issues since October when case numbers were low... now they’re sky high!

Do the right thing, people!

anyone can spread it, but not everyone can catch it, some are protected. Washing hands, keeping distance, wiping common surfaces and wearing masks have always been our best weapons in fighting the spread

Someone, far more intelligent than me, will one day produce a figure to show how many extra deaths per day dithered by the Government. That figure along with the total deaths will go down in history.

Their incompetence is killing members of all our families and friends.
