Even Pep said Governments have been no help with Covid (on 5 Live after today’s game). This is a case in point.
Good on him. He probably does not get the class system in the UK. I often have to explain it to my friend in America as she struggles to grasp how deep it runs here.
But Boris clearly thinks Football is a special case and is what the masses from 'the other side' who got him elected 'up north' want is to see them perform at all costs day after day, As that is the way to keep everyone distracted.
It is as if he thinks players and their families are in effect bears captured to perform in the circus and run into the ground as the only ones who count are the watching masses who will ignore the pain and captivity and the bear doing something tacky that is a huge effort to it and not at all what it wants to spend its life doing right now.
In real life we banned this kind of thing from circuses long ago because the masses considered it needlessly cruel and not entertainment and that there were better ways for bears to live their lives and for humans to enjoy a circus,
The PL has turned into a circus driven by money and the players are being asked to do things that are really inhuman. When all around the dancing bears (um sorry players) their families are at risk, their relatives are getting sick or dying from Covid and they know the crowds are not even allowed to watch unless they feed the corporate greed of those who need the bears in captivity to earn the big money they are giving and taking to put on the show that few even want to see right now.
They should have suspended the PL for the duration of the pandemic and if they really wanted football on TV organise a new competition giving money to health care and black lives matter rather than to the winners and letting the TV companies do the same to screen it with some to cover the costs.
Instead we get token gestures like tests and two days off if you get sick. And players making the same gesture on their knees every game that is cheap tatty replacement for actually doing something about why they are doing this act pre every match. Which half the TV audience sadly likely forgot months ago.
I bet the players would have happily voted for lower wages for the duration to do their bit for the ones who really matter right now not money grabbing TV stations. Especilly in exchange for a schedule that would not risk serious injury and drive these players into the ground as the TV companies demand.
So many people understimated this pandemic and assume that this 'distraction' was what the little people wanted.
They never thought to ask them or the players and their families as the only thing that counts is money.
Well they should wake up and realise there are far more important things right now than that let alone performing bears playing football to distract the masses.
