It amazes me how easily people just want to give up all their freedoms, is it fear?

When there's a vaccine that can save loved ones lives literally just arriving, then yes, it is of course fear. To lose someone this far into a pandemic with the solution literally on our doorstep would be ultra painful. All that separation and lack of time together for nothing. Why would anyone not be nervous?

On a side note, I've had a slight inkling throughout this that those most opposed to lockdown restrictions often have either had the virus so they're no longer personally fearful, or they don't have any notable vulnerable relatives that they're particularly concerned about - be it cos they've passed on or they work comfortably from home or they're retired and safe and sound.

Of course there will be exceptions, but I'd wager that is the situation for a lot of notably vocal sceptics. They feel secure, others don't. Not everyone, no, but almost certainly a fair few. Not that i'd particularly blame them either. If I didn't have vulnerable relatives i'd probably be a lot less concerned...or if I had and they'd already had it and recovered, or my immediate family had gone through it I might feel different too.

My point being is that everyone has different circumstances. Fearing the loss of loved ones is a perfectly good reason to want to lockdown and protect them. I can certainly go without restaurants, cinemas etc for a few weeks if it means there's a greater chance of my loved ones being protected and getting a vaccine. Freedoms are absolutely nothing if the people you want to share those freedoms with are no longer here. Not unreasonable really.

You’d be the first on the barricades screaming at them for being typically right wing. So not in the least bit ridiculous.
Your making zero sense, is a lockdown right yes or no will it safe lives yes or no will it stop hospitals being overwhelmed yes or no very simple whoever does it is irrelevant, talking about totalitarian regimes is talking complete and utter bollocks.

they will probably announce that we are all locked down again.

but in other news....

the borders are open, fly where the fuck you like where you want to and anyone and everyone in the world can come and go as they please
The chattering and rich classes who want their skiing holidays will be pissed off. They have an awful lot of sift power in this country.

Yep I hear you, but surely construction and everything like that could be instructed under no uncertain terms that they must close.

The weather/daylight should knock construction off-kilter a bit anyway, and I'd imagine getting parts and supplies will be increasingly difficult as well, so even without further enforcement, it's unlikely to be in full swing.
Just more folk hanging outside Greggs and getting lock-ins in pubs with no windows...

Right thing to do is full lockdown.

As per johnson has to be shamed into doing it by other politicians showing they are not scared of the big but tough decisions.

Would rather a lockdown now and the infections to drop while vacination stations should then be set up quicker in this period.

TBH I don't give a fuck what their motivations were.

Johnson was hellbent on keeping schools open against all logic. They've probably made that impossible, so good on them.
The difference between you and I, is that I’ve spent a lifetime caring about the education of young people. Something the teaching unions could learn about.

Scotland data

no deaths reported for fourth straight day. There will be a big catch up tomorrow

1905 cases at 15% positive.

Hopefully, we get proper questions from Journalists tonight like "What are the criteria for lifting restrictions?" "How many people have been vaccinated so far?" "How long do you envisage this long down to last?"

No point every other question being "Why didn't you lockdown sooner?"
I don’t think journalists should have airtime on the briefings. They should get another slot.

But I actually think it will be a Boris on his own on a pre-recorded statement where he’s sat down at a desk, with no journalist section.

If they come out and say "Yes we are doing another lockdown but we are setting up multiple vaccination centres in the country that will get x amount vaccinated in a month" I think a lot of people would accept there. At least it gives people hope of light at the end of the tunnel

exactly the daft twat will probably just say as cases are rising we have taken the decision to close zoos.

Don’t think raising concerns over public health issues can be classed as political. As now seems certain schools will not reopen even though Johnson and co claimed they are safe , so looks like the unions were correct while Johnson and his band of Merry men were spouting shit .
I’m sorry to disappoint you but I’ve worked in and with teaching unions for the last six years. One of the teaching unions put their political dogma above all else, including their members. Much to my shame as I had been fully paid up member of that union for over twenty five years.

I don't think anyone wants to, but we've given up most of the things we like anyway, and most are following the rules, but some do need to be forced to follow them sadly.

If we want our freedoms back quicker (and I know I do), I don't think there is much choice than to have another shutdown.
