It sounds like the variants work better because they have an increased affinity for the ACE2 receptor. If their affinity has changed for the receptor it follows that the antibody binding affinity may also change. I am guessing so people shouldn't worry if they read my comments.
I agree. However, a watchword could easily be ‘Act in haste, repent at leisure’.Surely, sometimes we just don't have the time to debate everything & decisions have to be made urgently
Shops only selling food and medicineSo what's the difference between lockdown and tier 4, apart from schools closing?
The Scottish one does. I sincerely hope not. My business was shut down in March. I can’t afford another one. Will this potential lockdown include the shutting of nurseries?
I've just seen on bbc website what tougher restrictions 'might' mean, and as far as I can tell, lockdown isnt much different from tier 4So what's the difference between lockdown and tier 4, apart from schools closing?
I don’t think the trajectory of the new strain, meaning an imminent lockdown being implemented, is hasty mate.I agree. However, a watchword could easily be ‘Act in haste, repent at leisure’.
I think no funerals might be a bit harsh!Shops only selling food and medicine
Schools colleges and universities to close
No bubbles for people living alone
No outdoor leisure group settings (my Nephew’s football training is still going ahead, he’s not going though)
No indoor leisure 1-1 settings (my Niece is still able to do 1-1 swimming lessons, she’s not going though)
Only one exercise session outdoors per day
No weddings
No funerals
Vulnerable shielding
Police presence on the streets
... and probably more
Borders closing?
Tier 4 isn’t particularly strict. You’d imagine that a full lockdown would actually be about Tier 6.
Without wanting to get into an argument here, have you seen the amount of air traffic there is in the UK (and Europe) just now, it's virtually nil, and who knows how many people are on these planes ?the borders are open, fly where the fuck you like where you want to and anyone and everyone in the world can come and go as they please
Hoping not as I think the transmission from them is very small compared to primaries & secondary schools but sadly I expect them to close. Will this potential lockdown include the shutting of nurseries?
As I said to Cleavers, I have absolutely no issue with lockdown as it slows down the contagion. They can introduce it at 16:00 for all I care.I don’t think the trajectory of the new strain, meaning an imminent lockdown being implemented, is hasty mate.

Under current tier 4, the rules say "People should not leave tier four areas or travel abroad, except for limited reasons (including work and education)", so work travel is allowed, and I've said it before in this (or the old) thread that there are thousand who work in the oil, gas, and chemical industries who do have to travel for work.

A lot of this depends on where you live. Can't see stopping shops selling things other than food and medicine working.
I'll be going for more than 1 outdoor exercise per day, so that's unenforceable too.
